So how do you guys write? Do you right you lyrics first then music? music then lyrics, either or?...I usually find myself strumming my guitar and singing lyrics off the top of my head and write different parts for it on different days. i never seem to try and finish a song in one day, it just doesn't happen for me like that. I have three main songs i'm working on and they're soon done. hopefully i will let you see them sometime in the future. 1 about high school, A happy song about a girl, and 1 more i guess you could call A sad song but not really about a girl... I'm 16 what do ya expect! haha |

Usually I come up with a line or two in my head when I'm sitting around or at work, Then when I can I start playing something on my guitar put the lines in and work around it. Usually I can finish a song in one sitting.
I don't have any set way of doing it, thats just usually how it happens |

Lyrics will hit me. I'll think of a "theme" then get hit with the lyrics to two or three songs. I'll type them as they come to me (on my iPod under notes) then add minor details later. I will then read through them, and delete ones I don't like. Then I sing them out loud. Once I have the lyrics memorized, I will start making a guitar part by playing on an unamplified electric guitar. Once I find some rhythms I like, I mess with distortion or the lack thereof (lately everything has been clean with a slapback delay).
So far, in 3 years of writing my own stuff, I have one full song, one song of just vocal/guitar/bass parts, and 4 songs of just lyrics. I trash 90% of the songs I write. I get very picky with my guitar parts too, I let imperfections slide in the lyrics, but if I can't get a good rhythm guitar part, the whole song dies. |

Well mezzie, Writing is a very odd subject for me.
Its usually done over long periods of time.
I usually write lyrics whenever I get inspiration
Which could be any random time. I write em down in a notebook
and just let em sit for awhile.
For guitar, I'll just play, and play until I come up with
something creative, not rushing creativity.
Then when I get that new guitar part, then I crack open
my lyric book, and play that guitar over some of the lyrics
see what works. If it aint happenein, Then back to the drawing
board.
Drums, keys, bass etc comes later, at the very end.

Yeah. I usually write in one or two sittings, but that doesn't mean I can pump out 3 songs in a day, sometimes I sit down and I can write a song. Sometimes I sit down and I can't write a single thing. It's not taht I'm just writing things randomly, they all mean stuff. Things just build up in my head and then they just pour out into words |
