I can't believe I didn't think of sharing this band with you before!

Their name is Caravan Palace, you may know them.

They are one of the funnest bands ever! in my book. I got back into them just the other day and felt like showing them to you. Every member is beyond talented.

When you play with a clarinet, do you always have to be in Bb?

@tsb if im not mistaken...i think that thats the way they are tuned...and it makes Bb the most comfortable key to play in. u know like how standard tuning on a guitar is most comfortable for E, A, and D.

but this is only what I(emphasis) think...you should disregard this because im a strings person and im not too into playing any other category of instruments so i dont know lol

No, all the name Bb clarinet says really is that the clarinet is a transposing instrument. Which means that if the clarinetist sees a C on a sheet (s)he plays a note which on a piano (or guitar) is a Bb. So the clarinet transposes all notes down a major second. If you ask a clarinetist to play a G, you'll get an F. If you ask for an F you get an Eb and so on... Check out Wikipedia on transposing instruments for more info!

If you ask a clarinetist to play a concert F, he will play his G and it will sound just like an F on a guitar.

The term 'concert pitch', however, indicates the pitch an orchestra is tuned after. Common concert pitch today is 'A4 = 440Hz'.

I hope that answered your question... :)

Its like if Django Reinhardt formed the Hot Club now instead of in 1934. love it.
