I have seen a lot of misinformation on modes around the internet and what modal music is however while looking for something interesting to learn I found this: http://www.lifesmith.com/Berkeley%20Teaching/Music%20Theory%20-%20Advanced.pdf it's a very good guide on modes that looks at modes of major scale, harmonic minor and one of melodic minor. It will also help improve your composition if you didn't already know all it teaches.
Well worth the read. :D |

@DanielM,
Dude! I downoaded the pdf to my computer already! This is the most useful piece of documentation on theory I have ever found on the net for free! Straight outta Berkeley! Ok! I'll stop yelling!
Thanks so much. |

No problem, I've been working on spicing up my soloing by switching between scales like minor, harmonic minor and Hungarian; I found this today and it got me thinking in a more practical manner helping me out of a rut.
I was just hoping other people would find it as useful as I did. |

Awesome Phip! This is written very well for all levels of theory. I've been saying I need to go back and re-learn theory forever but just couldn't find anything straight foward enough. |

@DanielM,
I tried to give you some Karma but the site says you need to post at least 20 times before anyone can give you any points. Let me know when you hit 20! |

I found something else while brushing up on my jazz didn't want to make a new topic so here it is: http://www.scribd.com/doc/53605430/Jazzology-Robert-Rawlins
It's 269 pages long book on jazz, very theory filled but a real education in one of the hardest styles, hopefully when the summer holidays come I'll be able to read it all and not just the odd chapter |
