I have couple questions about this.
Am I right that blue note is one semitone lower than thirds, fifths and sevenths?
Do this count to other scales than major scales too?
Thanks

"Blue Note" = Flatted-5th (b5) or Sharp 4 (#4) [same]
(as well as my favorite Jazz Label, Blue Note Records!...due to the "Blue Note" being so prominent in Bop, BeBop, and Hard-Bop-etc Jazz compositions and improvisations)
enough Blue Note History Carl ... answer the question!
anyways ...
IE:
take the "blues" scale
( god i loath that silly terminology! )
the "blues" scale = a minor pentatonic scale with an added note(s) in the form of a b5 and its octave.
add to straight-Maj and it looks like..
1 2 3 4 b5 5 6 7....
or
1 2 3 4 #4 5 6 7....
most folks deffer to the sharp-4 > #4 as it is usually easier to read when using tab..
1 2 3 4 b5 5 6 7-etc is much harder to READ than
1 2 3 4 #4 5 6 7-etc by the simple fact that b5 5 looks more confusing than 4 #4 when reading faster than a word a min.
Dig?
RAWK!

Carl is right! Also it sounds awesome if applied correctly, I use it all the time and has become part of my personal style now :) |

it can sound cool if you throw the flat 5th into the major/minor scale modes as well |
