Does anyone know how to fix a dent in an acoustic guitar with a satin finish? It's on the top of the guitar about a qtr of an inch wide. I normally would'nt care but it's deep enough to expose bare wood and I think it may have cause a slight split to start. |

That's a tough one sounds like you need to take it to a repair shop because the wood in that section might have to be replaced.
I read a book about guitar repair and I saw a classical guitar that had the same problem as yours and the repairman cut out the piece and added a new patch.
The problem is that trying to level the dent might cause more cracking and that causes the tone of the guitar to change for the worst.
The structure is also weakened since every part of a guitar body holds some weight.
Good luck fixing it. I would just put a sticker on it and play it less frequently but I am poor. |

you need a wet rag and a soddering iron
get the rag wet and set it on the guitar. then with the soldering iron hot you place it on the rag over the dent. the the dent should un-dent. I've heard this work but never tried it. sounds better the cutting chunks out of your guitar though. |

wish i had known something like this before. My guitar got hit with a frisbee while I was outside. Thought nothing of it at the time, but it started a split... now i have a nasty split halfway down the bottom of the guitar :(
however, there has been no noticeable change in the tone of my guitar, so i am fine with the split |

there nothing you can do and if you try to fix it with something drastic (except of Tele's idea if it works. i don't know what make of it so i wont say anything) you risk ruining the whole instrument. cutting chucks out is a huge risk even for the best professional not taking about the cost either i would assume |

Thanks you guys. I think I'll try Tele's idea. For some reason, I can't even feel the split anymore. |
