Learn a bunch of chords, preferably one a day, play the pentatonic position and learn the rest of the positions.
That's the starting point anyway. PM me later when you want more help. :) |

learning tons of chords does nothing. better to know two chords and how to use them the hundreds and have no clue |

I know that, but since this guy's just starting, what I explained is going to help him work towards understanding them. I know what I'm doing :) |

No, not at all. I know exactly where he's at. I'm fairly experienced and can tell right away his level of playing from what he's requested.
There's nothing impressive about how many years one has been playing, it's about how many hours you've dedicated yourself into the music. Anyone can say they've been playing for 30 years but still, they could be fairly crap, only knowing a few chords, pentatonic positions and some arpeggios.
There is sooooo much more than that, I've understood how much I have yet to learn, but I'm fully aware of near enough everyone's level on this forum. Which is exactly why I'm trying to help all of them as fast as I can so they don't struggle when they enter the real world. |

This may sound a bit tedious but try and devote a set amount of time each day/week for a structured practice routine and stick to it. Each routine should involve studying theory, learning new chords, and learning scales, etc. there is a lesson (I think by Jazzy) that explains how to get the most out of each session. I think if you really want to progress you must discipline yourself.

haha! Shocking I know :D But I managed to take a deep breath, and now I'm calm.
Yeah it's by me, but it might be a bit too advanced for him. Plus I haven't seen him on here since, so he might have already left...
Just incase!
