Have you been playing long? If you have not itjust takes a few weeks for beginners to strengthen up for playing. My wrist, joints around my fingers and definately my finger tips really hurt when I first started playing. If you are a early beginner you'll soon srenthen your hand if you do basic exercises on it every day for half an hour. |

i've been playing for nearly 2 years and use to practise for 5hours a day
well the pain just went so i guess it could be a reaction to the cold outside. Hopefully |

I hope so too, but I do remember when my music teacher was delibrately (but not meaning to be mean!) pointing out what us different musicians are going to develop later in life from it. He said guitar players can get authritous in our wrists and fingers and sometimes even our necks after a while, although I never thought it would be as soon as two years. It's probebly the cold I can feel stiff and painful when it is myself so it'll probebly just blow over. |

if its cold as hell you tend to get pain as the muscles are having to work/stretch and warm-up at the same time.
Main thing to worry about in your fretting hand (so I've read) if you play guitar alot without warming up and use computer keyboards alot, is the development of 'Carpal Tunnel Syndrome' I'm going to get my fretting wrist checked out next time I goto the docters -.-
And pain wise eh I've fractured/sprained my left wrist in a mosh pit, still playing (stupid me) hurts like a unlaiden female dog. |

I think I experienced the same thing as you no less than a month ago. It's the muscle in the palm of your hand, between the thumb and index finger, right? It killed when I bent my fingers, let along bar a fret board. Most likely, I think it was just a strained muscle and I forced myself not to pick up a guitar for about a week. When I began playing again, it was still tender, but now it's fine. I was freaking out about it though. |

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but does it hurt all the time or just when doing bar chords? It could be that your pressing down too hard. |

if your action is too high, that can sometimes strain your hand if you need to press down pretty hard to even fret it. possibly camp too, i get it in that part of my plam if ive held it in a constant position. good thing to do is have your plam out facing up. raise your thumb and move it in circles. thatll help that specific muscle to gain a little more mass so it doesnt ache as much. |

If you're playing something new, your hand might not be used to the positions and muscle movements that you're using. don't push yourself too hard. Massage it if it's too bad.
Make sure you're deep breathing, too. Sometimes while us guitarists play, we shorten our breath because we're so absorbed in playing, this can cause pain because we don't have enough oxygen going through our body. |
