So my parents are giving me around 450 dollars, about, and I really want a Les Paul. But I also want one of those ES-335's (how much are those?) I am not good with prices, and don't have much experience with this kinda thing but I really want one of either of those guitars. I'd also like some new pedals and heads, but that's not gonna happen for a few months.
Any recommendations? P.S. They have to be top quality instruments, not just some kinda crap that lasts for a month and breaks, or sounds horrible. I need good sound, and good durability, and of course, some eye candy!
Thanks guys! |

I got an es335 dot, the epiphones cost about $400 new but they are pretty cheap 2nd hand. I bet you can find a decent one for $150-200. Mostly because they a bit specilized. The guitar will hold a note forever, at the same time it's not a good metal guitar. A les paul will be more in demand and i think the prices 2nd had are going to be higher.
But i love my dot, but I herd Ibanez had some decent thin body hollows. If i was to buy new i'd shop around. |

yes... get a ESP LTD over a epiphone, any day of the week... but...
saving up and getting a real gibson les paul is the better option. |

might wanna check out one of the ibanez style ones. they have active pickups tho, dunno if thats a good or bad thing for you.

OR you could go for the PRS Se singlecut.
id highly reccomend it.
similar to a les paul shape, but lighter.
does every style well from metal to grunge to classic rock to jazz.

You're insane if you think you'll get a Gibson for less than $800. Get an Epiphone Les Paul (plus top). Can't go wrong for the money. |

Thats for sure Jazz! My buddy has a pawn shop and a guy came in with a Jackson RR3 and sold it for $50.00 (Crack heads)lol And you can get a Gibson for way less then $800.A friend just got a SG for $400.00 you just have to know where to look. I was at the pawn shop today and got Guitar Hero 3,game and little exployer guitar for $20.00 My daughter loves it!And Matt (the owner)just got a Epiphone exployer for 200.00 and he said he'd sell it to me for 250.00 but I'm not into them .Ebay is like that also! |

ebay has turned to shit, though. it's really difficult to find good deals there now, because it has become standard to sell items for as much as 80 percent of their cost, used. |

Ebay's getting pricey, plus people are circulating fakes on there. Most commonly Gibsons and Ibanez JEMs, but I have even heard tell of a fake Epiphone. o_O
Is there Craigslist in Canada? That might be a good place to check things out if you want used.
And look out with Epi Dots, since the quality of them varies greatly. I tried one once that was pretty good, but I played another that was absolute crap. Make sure you buy the exact same one that you test out. |

The quality control of epiphone is better than gibsons. With Epiphones you get consistent guitars, you cant's really say the same for Gibson.
Get an epiphone and take it to the guitar shop, have a bone nut installed and replace the bridge and taipeice with guibson parts, have the electronics and switches replaced with Gibson parts including pickups.
