I voted Metallica, because if Metallica did not start to suck no one would care about megadeth.
But come on I would take Anthrax over all of them. Anthrax is the sheeeit and they did not take them selves all too seriously |

I've never heard this Megadeath, so I can't say. Still, I can't stand Metallica (new or old). |

Metallica, they really raised the bar with ride the lightning. Overkill is my favorite, but they aren't in here... From what everyone who was there says, it was just amazing, everyone was just amazed by the direction they took.
Although if anyone says Metallica started it... No, just no. Overkill was thrashing way before them, as were many other bands, if some one wants I can go through it. |

I voted Metallica, but both are great bands though.
@Veqq
You're right Metallica didn't start thrash metal, but they are one of the "big four" who simultaneously created and popularized the Thrash metal subgenra.
The so called "big four" are:
Metallica (Formed in 1981)
Slayer (Formed in 1981)
Megadeth (Formed in 1983)
Anthrax (Formed in 1981)
And for Overkill they formed in 1980, just one year before Metallica so they weren't thrashing "way" before them. And a little more history on Overkill a.k.a. "Virgin Killers" in there early years, They started as a cover band. Covering songs from the punk and heavy metal genra, a few bands they covered: The Ramones, The Dead Boys, Motorhead, Riot, and a few others. They just did it with a little more speed and extra distortion. They didn't start writting there own shit till 1981.
Back to Metallica and Megadeth....
With out Metallica, Megadeth would have never been born! For the ones who did't know... Dave Mustaine was the original lead guitarist for Metallica. He was kicked out of the band because of his addictions, sad but true. They never talked to him about it, they just kicked him out. And the feud between Dave Mustaine and Metallica began resulting in the birth of Megadeth.

Didn't anthrax do a collaboration with Public Enemy?
I think it was them that did it, anyway. |

Anthrax was great, they did the thrash thing very well and were not afraid to do other stuff. Look they had this I'm the man EP which had a rap song and I believe started the while nu metal and metal rap thing. The song with Public enemy, and did a sorta' punk song on persistence of time.
They are an underrated band! even thought they are on the big 4 list of the time |

Meh, they're ok. I think I only liked what they did with Public Enemy.
I heard them at this concert, and it was total garbage. Just a bunch of guys trying to play SUPER FAST ZOMG!1!! I'd rather Maiden over those guys, any day. |

See the thing that really turned me off to Metallica was Kirk Hammett, how he took Dave's solos when he joined. |

Kirk sucks.
No offense to metallica.
But his work just sounds mindless.
And taking Dave's solos is such a pussy-ish and uncreative thing to do man!
It's one thing to like, take ELEMENTS of another musician's solo, but not like the whole thing... That's just wrong. |

Yeah but, GT, maybe Metallica kicking Dave out was GOOD for a few reasons.
Like:
We have Megadeth now
He sobered up
Metallica sold out so Dave doesn't suck too
Bad:
Kirk stole the solos
Metallica sux (with Dave they maybe coulda been good) |

Do you guys really think Dave was good enough?
I mean Dave had Marty to handle the solos for years.
Had they not kicked him out then would you have Master of Puppets, Justice for all? would they be the same? You would also not have some Countdown to Extinction, Rust in Peace.
Dave had some views, and attitude that came out in his songs and has really matured in the days since. From what i have herd, I quit listening to thrash around that time (currently re-visiting).
This is the same argument as why the 5th Beatle left.... |

I'm not much of a Kirk Hammett fan either, but he diden't steal Dave's solos. Lars Ulric and James Hetfield told him to play the few solos that Dave did write. I really don't think Kirk had much of a choice in the matter.

Dave was in the band just shy of 2 years and only co-wrote a total of 8 songs with Metallica. |

lmao !!! but so true !!!!
i really loved metallica way back. i never understood dave as he was
a little strange with the way he sang/wrote in megadeath. i think
symphony of destruction is how he felt about playing in metallica
though. haha... |

metallica is winning...
oh well Metallica was a good band, I just like Megadeth more because they are still making good music. Metallica on the other hand is not.
and I dont have much hope for "Death Magnetic" either. It gonna be another Black album which wasnt even that good.
and @telecrate what o you mean by Dave being "Good Enough"
and @Sorrow Kirk did have a choice. |

The few Metallica songs I like would be:
M.O.P.
Sandman
One (I Guess)
No Leaf Clover
Turn The Page
And I think that's it.
@ironman
I'm guessing Death Magnetic is Met's new album?
Stupid question but I don't follow the band so yeah. |

Im sorry, even this was a close call I had to vote Metallica :D. hmm why? lemme think couple..
1. Metallica as a name of the band sounds more intelligent than MegaDeth
2. "Sad but truuu--uuuuAH" - suffix is great!!!
3. James play his guitar height of knees...

Seek and Destroy was pretty cool
Am I evil was pretty cool too
Battery has some badass bass work in it
Harvestor of Sorrow wasn't bad.
St. Anger (whole album) is bollocks though. And I love that word ;P

That's not how Metallica works. Lars and James write the songs, and the others play them.
And what's so wrong with the Black Album?
I actually quite like Load and Reload as well. They are not the same as albums from the 80s, but if Metallica didn't change then people would be bitching that they are just the same.
Death Magnetic could be good, we'll see when it comes out. |

I think someone else on here said it a while back, but I will say it again;
You have to have a lot of balls to make an album completely different than your other stuff... Even if it sucks. |

Yeah, that was me, lol
blackholesun says: Metallica have changed, but people would say if they were still releasing albums like "Master Of Puppets" then they suck because they haven't developed in over 20 years. When they made "St Anger", they were fully aware that it was completely unlike any of the stuff they had made before, and they rightly recieved a backlash from some die-hard fans. But if a band has the balls to do that, to go out and do what they want to do, then you must really admire them.

I wasn't one

Slipknot is fucking crazy.
They're pretty cool, the singer is way better than James too.
But James isn't TOO bad of a singer.
