wut music do u play? and every 1 makes mistakes, the pros everyone, they just get sooo good tht they can cover them up and make them sound good and turn it into an extra, or they just dont make them a lot. they still make them tho, just keep practicing is all i can say. |

You only have three fingers? Well, that may put you at a disadvantage, but you should keep trying. You could also try switching to a different pick thickness. Some people say that thicker picks are more accurate.
Do you know what thickness of pick you use now? |

i think he means hes using 3 fingers as a pick, if he only has 3 fingers tht could be a reason. |

I have the same problem except i cant solo or lead in any way, and I dont consider myself 2 years worth of skill. |

Oh ok, I just assumed that he meant to put a comma in there. |

well.. same here, ive made mistakes even on my own songs :D. your style of music its maybe harder than mine, but ive trained to help mistakes with improvisation immediately i make one (i think that is called "An Artistic Mistake") :P |

Oh, ok. Well, do you know where the mistakes are being made? Like is your fretting hand not pressing in the right spot, or are you missing the string with your picking hand? |

Practice playing the scales up and down, over and over. It should help your fretting hand become more accurate. |

If it works for you, and you can do it fast enough, then sure, by all means do it. But you could try holding the pick with just thumb and index fingers, so you can down-pick while doing pinch harmonics. But just do whatever feels natural to you. |

I'd suggest scales like skold said every day...I do and it really amkes difference, if i don't play my scales for a few days ina row my playing speed goes from lighting fast make ur mind melt to poop...
and ALWAYS hold the pick on the the side of ur index finger and the pad of ur thumb, it may take u while to learn to pick the "correct" way but once you get it down everything will be easier.
if ur a metal core guy :) try Phrygian and Locrian scales my favorite
and if you want a more technical scale try a
accending tone to semitone hexatonic scale(there's a mouth full)
e-------------------------------9-11-10|
B------------------------9-11-10-------|
G-----------------8-9-10---------------|
D-----------8-9-10---------------------|
A------5-7-8---------------------------|
E-5-7-8--------------------------------|
This might actually be a decending scale, but hey who cares... |

pinch harmonics: this is what ive found, when i picked up the pic i immediatly got them. like within a day. make the pick tip very close to your figer, so if u look at it at eye level u cant see the tip, then strumm one note, i hope tht works. |

How did you learn to play? maybe you need some training. I on the other hand recieved no training and I made so many mistakes like you say but eventually practice makes perfect. I learned to play solos and lead about two or three years of playing chords and riffs. |

Do you think you might be trying to run before you can walk?
When I first started playing, I was crazy about the 'Crossroads blues' (or rather Claptons cover of it ). Trouble was, I was trying right from the off to play it at the same speed as him, so I got myself into all sorts of difficulties. Once I got the idea of slowing the whole thing down and then speeding up very gradually (making sure I got it note perfect first), the mistakes stopped. A metronome will really help you with this, and don't be afraid to start at a really boring 40bps! |
