So does any one have any loyalty when it comes to your guitar strings? Personally I think they all suck or about the same. I really don't find much difference between the different brands. So usualy just by what cheap, or maybe something i have not tried before. |

elixers, they last for eternity because they are covered in this thin material called nano-web, it also makes them alot smoother than other strings |

I like my D'addario .10 strings. I still have my original strings on my Godin and I have had it since December 10th, 2007. None broke, so they seem loyal. |

I bet if you changed them you would notice a huge difference. I changed mine yesterday and the old strings were only about 3 weeks old and I could tell a difference. |

It seems strings SOMETIMES affect your guitar's tone too.
I have no idea why but it is weird. Cause I changed strings once and the tone sounded different, and I have the same tone setting all the time. Unless maybe I just accidentally set the tone differently. I don't know. But is it possible? |

Yes, new strings often sound better than old ones. If strings get worn down too much, they sound dull. |

i use ghs boomers for the power. no real loyalty, some strings work better for different styles, but when it comes down to it, a lot of them are all the same. however, you can get really shitty strings if you buy the low end ones. a lot of it has to do with how theyre wound. |

Maybe that's why the tone is different then... |

I don't have a loyalty I littorly walked into the store and said, "Give me the heaviest gauge of electric guitar strings you can give me." and here I am with my .11-.70's lol. I love it because after I get done playing on them, and play on someone else's guitar who strings his guitar with Extra light strings. It feels like i'm just touching the fretboard with no strings in between. |

There's a tonal differance in string age, string gauge and brand. Some strings sound brighter than others, like Ernie Balls sound like they have a slight bit more high end than Daddarios to me. |

@WickedBeast, I remember earlier this year someone mentioning that they like to use really heavy gauge strings and go play his guitar like 2 whole steps down and then tune the 6th string to B. Something like that.
That's because heavy gauge strings can do that, unlike the .9's I use :P |

Lol, this is true. They can because they have a really high tension, but I keep mine in standard. |

No loyalty at all, I just go for the thinnest things I can find, I found a few pack of 6 gauge back in the day, but can't find anymore so I'm using some 7 gauge I bought off Ebay, actually they are really good, been on the same set for like 8 months. :) |

@Nutter,
You could always like take the dead string to the music shop, then ask them what gauge it is and tell them to give you a string like it.
I think I remember doing that once. |

Ernie Ball regular slinky is great for me because i tune standard. But really if you want a string that will have an enormous difference then it'll cost a shit load of money. george lynch once said that when he teamed up with dean markley that he could make an awesome set of strings but the price would be crazy high. |

Well, showing them your A string should be good enough for them to determine, I think. |

Yeah just bring yer guitar in, ask them to put an e string on that matches the gauge of the other 5 strings.
The people down there should be smart enough to know what to put on. After all, they do work in a guitar store.... |
