rock n roll

rock n roll has faded into a small group of people (by rock n roll i mean like beatles tht started it, elvis doesnt count thts country,to the early 90s). what im asking is the rock nd roll sound, with nickleback and rhcp useing the exact sme rythms on ther songs, what rythm or sound makes a band a clssic rock band. thers just somthing different about the bands. for example, ac/dc use basicly 3 main chords on a lot of ther songs repeting with a chorus until the solo, pretty basic? but it sounds like classic rock. nickleback uses the exact same chords but sounds like a pop country and rhcp is like a soft alternative kinda thing, my question: what makes a band sound like a classic rock band?

modified blues rhythmic patterns(nickleback and rhcp have replaced the bluesy groove with other influences like funk and folk on many of their songs),4/4 time, the gear they use and record with, the production( classic rock bands usually tend to be more analogue sounding on their records) etc, etc.

I agree with Calvin. Blues rhythm, the timing, the production. The vocals always seem to match certain music aswell.

well if you look at the influences of a band/musican and who influenced there influences it all goes back, way back to all the same music, blues, country, classical, and jazz. (Elvis does count because he is directly influenced by both country and jazz)

We pretty much live in a world were we have to over analyze and put every thing into neat little boxes or categorizes. we have rock, alt rock, country rock, grunge rock, punk rock, Nurock, 80's rock. Come on it it really necessary?

I have such a tough time finding new music because of the bull. I enjoy rock but other than that I'm not sure where my tastes fit in.

Personally, I think al lthe labels are helpful when you're after something similar to something. The fact that there so many labels that accurately describe different music helps when you're in a certain mood and want to find similar bands to one you're listening to.

Well that works, for you? Maybe my "labels" are wrong then, because it never works for me.

I don't know... I don't think you can go far wrong finding what you're after searching for electro-post punk or technical grindcore with the bands you find.
