Is it a chromatic harmonica ie. has two or more octaves and a slide for sharps/flats? |

My grandfather played (well) and I picked up a few gospel songs from him. If it's in the key of C and is not chromatic (slide thing at the side)It kinda limits you to that key. I have fun with them and one day if I get good enough I might even buy one of those bob Dylan tings so you can play guitar too. Good luck |

I played a harmonica for several years in my high school harmonica group, but we only used chromatic harmonica's ( as played by Larry Adler if you've heard of him). If that's what you've got, you need to play songs one note at a time. To achieve this, you need to curl your tongue backwards behind your teeth and leave just enough of a gap on the right hand side of your mouth to blow and suck one hole at a time. It takes a little practice , but it's no where near as hard as learning guitar!
I spent many happy hours as a youngster, sitting in my bedroom, Hohner in my mouth sucking and blowing for all I was worth! |
