My Youtube Video - Acoustic Solo

My first time recording a video of me playing guitar. The song is Bon Jovi's "Livin on a Prayer."

I've been playing guitar for about 11 months now, and this is a milestone project. I made a lot of mistakes and i feel that i lost tempo in some places, but it's all to learn!

Some suggestions/comments would be awesome. Thanks guys.

For 11 months, I'd say you're good. I wasn't that good in my first year anyway. I noticed a load of mistakes - but it's all a learning curve so... cool - it's good.

Yeah, the one problem i have is my sloppiness. I have a tendency to zone out and let muscle memory take over, and I don't realize that my hand position is muting a string that should be played, or that my hand is just a little off, muting a string i need to play.


Or I just play the wrong chord all together o_0

hehe sounds nice, only the chords of the chorus sound sloppy sometimes
but 11 months is pretty impressive , you learned it by ear , tab, .. ??

I have no musical background what so ever. Guitar is my first instrument (besides the sax in 5th grade... which i did for 2 months and then quit). It was tab :(

I'm working on my ear though. maybe another year or 2 before I'll be able to do something like this without a tab... I don't know.

i usually can transcribe two bars from a song by ear and that would already take me long long time , my ear is not good at all , just to let you know you're not alone;)

wow!!! dude for 11 months, thats VERY GOOD...and no worries about learning things by ear...either you have it or you dont...if you dont, itll be a hell of a ling time before you do...but gluck...

I'm working on another song: it's by Antoine Dufour. I might think about recording a video of that, but I want to clean it up a bit more before I do.

Dufour is my inspiration to playing guitar, and he's the reason I'm still playing, so it will be a great tribute to him. It's the second one I'm learning by him (First was "No Name For Love" and this one is "Glimmer of Hope")

I can't wait to start posting more videos to document my progress as a guitarist.

Quite the accomplishment! To be great at anything, it takes dedication and practice. Obviously, youare putting in your time.

As like you, I started playing another instrument (trumpet) and was going to play professionally with it. For a lot of reasons, I gave up music completely until about 2 1/2 years when I too picked up the guitar. Thousands of hours later of practice people say wow you have talent. Yes there issome tallent, however, the real key it to keep your nose in the grindstone and practice.

You have tallent! Obviously, you are putting in the time. At this point you have the potential to be a great muscian. I hope you can hook up with some people thatyou can learn some music theory so yo be able to write your own stuff. It is a debate if you really need music theory, however, it is a good base to have to give you ideas on chord progressions, chord substitions, scales, etc.

Keep up your good work. Look forward in your next post.
