just got a gibson sg standard for 450!!!!!!!!!!!!

congratulate me... i stumbled apon a 2001 gibson sg standard with quite a few upgrades (not to mention all the orignal parts) case and paperwork for 450. I happened to be at the pawnshop at the right time.

My first ever gibson.. not quite the les paul I wanted but still something to love....

I just bought it on the spot... I figured it would be worth about 700-800. think any people would trade for a les paul or no?

probably, there's got to be somebody out there willing to trade. Craigslist, always a good place to start advertising.

I could blow your mind with the deals I have gotten. but... I do spend at least an hour a day trolling craigslist and other things for gear. I have a decent sized studio which is my main passion. Guitar is just a growing love for me.

I love craigslist for it's occassional retard who doesn't know anything about guitars and sells a Gibson Les Paul for 300 bucks. lol.

yeah, I saw some guy selling a vintage marshall super lead amp head for like $300... just because the pots needed cleaned.
also the occasional idiot who tries to sell a first act walmart guitar for $300

Those first acts may be the 'good ones'. I was playing in a multi band event and there was this guy with a first act guitar. He told me he was sponsored by first act and that they gave him his guitar. I did a little research and found out that they do have a sponsor program and they have guitars that they sell for $1000. They look so ugly to me though.

Oh. yeah. that makes me choke then. that would suck so bad to find out later that you paid over 3 times more for a piece of firewood with strings and a couple of magnets. Then even while its burning the popping and crackling would be out of tune!

I think they're made out of particle board (like most everything else at walmart).

May I advise not being in too much of a rush to get rid of your SG for a Les Paul. Take your time and get to know it. Two things you'll notice immediately is a) it's just as playable as a Les Paul and b) with it being a double cutaway (and a very sexy looking double cutaway I might add), the upper frets are much more accessible than on an LP (unless you want to pay about £2000 for the latest Axcess LP).
Remember, neither of these two excellent guitars will be taken out of production for the foreseeable future so take your time!

I'd say keep the SG they are nice and light easy to paly and that neck just sticks out like does it makes it so easy to hit those high notes.

Les paul's a heavy My sholder always ached from playing.

These are my thoughts so far... I am loving being able to go so high on the neck I do alot of playing around the 12 fret incorporating alot of open string playing as well.... The sg is a great guitar and at the price I got it at a steal. I have not played any of my other guitars since I got the sg (not because I have not had the desire to) but because since I have been playing strats for so long I feel like I owe it to myself to get used to the slightly thicker and wider neck and to get a feel for the guitar not just noticing the difference between it and my strat... I can instantly notice the quality. the second I pick up an epiphone or MIM strat I can notice the difference but the quality of the gibson shines through. The sound is amazing. The crunchy rock sound of the sg makes me feel like between the strat and sg I could get almost any guitar tone (I have a tele too but not to big a fan of the particular one I have)... I guess I will keep it for a while... as well as spend a couple hours with a les paul... I could always do the trade years from now

If you can afford to upgrade the pick-ups on your SG to something like say, a pair of 'splitable' Seymour Duncan 'buckers' you might find your Strat is surplus to requirements.

edit. That is, unless your one of the few Strat players who's actually found a use for the middle pick-up!

I use the middle pickup on my strat quite a bit. I use it with the neck pickup. It gives a nice mellow sound.
