Playing with female vocalist

Hi guys,
Some doctor from one of my gigs asked me to help his daughter out.
So he bought my demo cd, wel i dont sell them but he insisted!
I play only instrumental spanish nylon guitar with alot of rhythm and percussive work.
So he wants me to help her playing along with her singing...
So i said ill see what i can do but i dont know what to expect?
Any advice on playing along with a vocalist?
Would like a reply asap gonna see her tonight.

Hey Reinhardt,
You'll need to find out a few things from the start, so treat tonight as a "get to know you" session.
What style of music does she want to sing?
CAN she sing?
Is she interested in singing the style of songs that you like?
Are you willing to change your whole style to fit her "needs"?
Are the two of you capable of getting along?

So, sit down and talk with her for a while before you even pick up your guitar. Obviously the girl wants to be a singer and you agreed to meet her. But here is the bigger question. What does Reinhardt want? If you want to be a solo act then help the girl out by introducing her to other musicains who are looking for a singer and you will have met your obligation.
Don't make any pre-judgements until you have met her. Be friendly and see what happens. Make a friend but don't commit to something you really would rather not do. On the other hand it might lead to a fantstic colaboration. Good luck tonight,

Aye, your playing style could easily be singed over, there are two choices at start. Start to play covers, that you practise to play them and singer practise to sing them. This is easiest and hardest way, easiest because you know how it should be and hardest (and some cases boring)part is to practise them. (Im much against this, because usually covers do not "give" me anything, because they are reflections of other people emotions.)

Other way is jamming and improvising, if she is improvising sort, there is potential to have some great stuff coming up just to let it flow, simple chord progressions should be on the jam that singer catch the stuff easier. It can be tweaked later on. (I usually encourage people writing or doin own stuff)

try to sense when eachother is playing/singing faster, slower, stronger, so you can make both instruments feel like theyre together, not just playing the same thing

Thx for the posts guys! I went there tonight and she was amazing! She sings like Katie Melua, very jazzy, bluesy kind of voice but very good! I threw in some percussive work in the chord progressions and it sounded awesome! She writes her own songs and lyrics so im sorted on that part :)
Im stil gonna do my solo instrumental style but gonna give her a shot also :)
