Im trying to find a nice acoustic guitar thats in the 400-500 dollar range, and I was wondering if anyone knew any makes that would be in that price range and sound good, not looking at fender or any of the big names, just a smaller company that I can get the most bang for my buck so to speak. If that is even a possibility.

I found the perfect one on ebay, its a great deal just because of a few minor scratches that shouldnt affect the sound, if I get it ill post it here. ends in 4 days 11 hours and 58 minutes.

Browse Yamahas, Martins and definately check out some Gibsons. They're all well below that amount, certaintly were last time I went guitar shopping anyway. I even once got a Gibson Baldwin 3/4 with a whole starter kit for £80, when it was worth £110. Plus it even had a 5 year gaurentee. In American dollars £80 is probebly something over $160 dollars I think, don't know the value of a dollar for definate though. The person who told me looked uncertain themself! But I know it's defintely got to be cheaper then that range. All these brands sound amazeing.

I have a Martin and I love it more than my own mother. How much do Martin's cost theses days? My parents bought me mine years ago and I don't know what they paid for it.

I'm not sure of smaller makers, but these are guitars from large companies I have tried personally and really liked:

I played an Epiphone in that range that sounded really good. I think it's the EJ-200, which has a "Jumbo" style body that sounds a little different than a standard "dreadnaught" style, which seems to be most common in your price range.

I have a Yamaha FG730S, which cost about $300. It's pretty good as well, as is the Yamaha FG700 (pretty much same as 730 but with nato wood instead of rosewood, and its a little cheaper).

In general, for that range try to find something with solid wood, as opposed to "laminate" wood, as solid usually sounds better. Of course, if you really like a laminate wood guitar over a solid, go with it, since you're the one playing it. :]

Really? Cool! There must be massive bargins in America, I have to go there just to get myself some cheap good guitars in that case! Gosh now all I can think of is throwing my converted cash around for dream gear.

@DrGonzo, last time I knew someone who bought a Martin in 2007 said she got it for $300. Gosh I've never had one, but whenever I mess on with someone else's I just fall in love with it. Probebly will be my next guitar. Won't be getting another for a while I think though :(

England's currency is going dowwwwwn. it used to be 2 dollars to the pound, holy crap I need to hurry up and get out of here. The great depression is soon to start once more.

Just to add, he doesn't want any big named guitars listed.

breedlove is good

that and i'd bump up your range to 600-800 if you can i think you'll be more happy big difference if you shop around in my opinion.

@jazz i know it was a world thing but i thought only USA referred to it as the great depression. that and where do you think your going to go or you just don't like England and you'd rather be stuck somewhere else
