Ideas on a introductory to a jazz song

I'm like half way through writing a jazz song, but I need an idea on how to begin it. It starts with a chord progression that just is just too sudden for an intro. any ideas?

Why not have a chromatic intro, mess with the timing a little. It depends on what type of Jazz composition you're aiming for.
Smooth Jazz,
Acid Jazz,
Fusion Jazz,
Electronic Jazz,
Soul Jazz,
Nu Jazz,
Vocal Jazz,
Straight-ahead Jazz,
Latin Jazz,
Contempory Jazz,
Dixieland Jazz,
Avante-garde Jazz,
Blues,
World,
Ghospel.

What a list, but still, they're all quite unique.

Take a look at these musicians to get a slight idea of an intro:

Chick Corea (Illusions - one of my favourite tracks)
John McLaughlin - (any track really) Guardian Angels
George Benson - Dinorah, Dinorah (5 stars, it's a great track)
Christian Scott - Dialect
Dotsero - Westchester Lady

michael angelo listens to chick corea,john mlaughlin and george benson. on the note of jazz, what kinda of jazz is like a fast clean solo for example andres oberg. the technicality is insane

if you are asking who are fast clean soloist??? then listen to bebop tenor sax(generational not all ways) specifically john Coltrane(my fav) and charlie Parker.

Paco de Lucia is awesome for fast Jazz solos... on guitar, that is. It just depends on what type you're interested in, because sometimes certain people don't like strong Jazz, and prefer it a little simpler.

yea i guess mine is a little simple, smooth. i like the idea of a chromatic intro though

Just sitting here thinking about your question, and it reminded me of "a hard days night" intro. why not a single chord sustained for about 3 or 4 seconds and then jump into your chord progression? Just a thought...........

What kind of thing are you interested in? More detail will lead me to some great artists to list off :)

if you look up fast guitar solo (2005) andreas oberg on youtube. thats what in interested in. or like frank gambale. or something like the flute solo from anchorman

it's starts off with a IV. isn't that an awkward chord to start with? I'm open to any kind of idea. I think i'm gonna just write a whole other chord pro. to begin it. i'm not sure if thats gonna help though.

ooh i love opening with a IV! keep it! keep it!! :D :D haha, check out some of the licks i've posted on here, that might help lead you into something interesting. Transcribe it according to your key and you have lift off! :D

i found something called gypsy jazz. thats the kinda i think, or fusion. it could also be bebop, maybe
