Does a hollow bodys humbuckers sound like single coils? or do they sound like normal humbuckers?
In other words, can i play metal or rock on a hollow body? |

Yeah, it'll have a different tone, but sounds amazing in my opinion.
The tone is more "Jazz" but it's still possible. But it depeneds on what you like, so try it out for yourself, too |

You can play any style on any guitar if you really want to. It's just that some styles sound better on certain guitars.
I saw the band "Down" live, and their guitarist had a semi-hollow/hollow guitar. So yeah, you could try if you want. |

Go for it. I know Izzy Stradlin sometimes played a semi-hollow body guitar and he got sounds out of that thing you wouldn't believe in my opinion. |

Yeah, Hallow body's can be used in Rock (not sure about metal, though). Use whatever you think sounds best, mate. |

Some metal, not to much. I think its cos' most metal players don't dig the look of 'em...like me. But there are some guys who use them to record. Not so much live though. |

The sound of high gain on humbuckers on a hollow body is pretty harsh, it works well for punk but not so much for metal. It would also depend on the guitar, i think an ES-175 or ES-335 would be bad choices but the more strat/tele styple that are hollowed out would be fine for metal. They do fead back quite a bit compared to hollow bodys.
They have great tone when played clean or with mild overdrive. |

Paul Gilbert's signature Ibanez is a hollow body and gets AWSOME sound on distorted high gain sounds. Clean also. Quite pricey though with it being a signature axe. |

@ Tele,
I was thinking more Westone Rainbow II hollow bodies. They're amazing for metal and Rock. Ahh man I can't even express how AMAZING the guitar is, and it's so easy to play on! Check it out my friends, you won't regret it.

what a bunch of crap but your right...
Ibanez link to Pauls Guitar
"The RG-shaped Ibanez Signature PGM is built for the super-sonic fret travel that has made virtuoso Paul Gilbert famous throughout the known universe. With its painted F-holes, reverse headstock and brilliant White finish, the PGM is a bright star in the black sky, shining down rays of crackling , electric notes, too fast to count, too bright to look at."
I don't think metal and hollow bodys go well together. It's hard to describe what the ultra high gain on a hb sounds like. but it does not have the sound most metal shredders are looking for. I think thery are good for about every thing else. |
