you need to build up strength in your fingers an callouses on your finger tips. Also try some light gauge strings. |

I think they are all the same. Just go lighter gauge for ease though.
But... Try using multiple fingers for bends if it's hard. |

using 2 fingers to bend increases control and decreases soreness, and lets you more easily do vertical vibrato. alternating your bend from up to down wherever it's more comfortable will help and improve your bending.
using strings with LARGER e b g strings and normal/smaller E a d strings will help. the larger strings hurt because they are harder to bend, the smaller strings hurt because they are so thin they cut into you. the pink ernie ball rock n'rolls will be best.
raising your action slightly will help.
being a man about it would help too. |

I use three fingers to bend up like one and a half steps.
@Baudelaire I thought lowering the action would make it easier?

not really. the closer to a 45 degree angle you can get your fingers to push when you bend, the smoother the bend will come off. it also decreases resistance from additional strings you are pushing into, since they will come into contact with your nail and slide instead of having to be pushed with your fingertip. i'm not saying it should be VERY high, just another .75 millimeter at the center will ease your bending. |

hehe, it seems to be easier and makes more sound when done more in the center of the fret |

i started using 9's and then when my fingers got stronger i moved
back up to 10's
it won't take very long to strengthen your fingers if you practice often.
