Active pickups have a good tone but my vote goes to passive because Dimarzio are just something else |

I THINK actives are high-gain, so they are especially good with lots of distortion. I'm not sure though. |

In my experience, passives just have an all around weaker, shallower sound than actives.
That doesn't mean that actives are only for metal... They just have a very rich, full, thick sound. I know technical-death players that use the same actives as some Jazz players... |

I haven't had a lot of experiences with actives. A friend of mine has a strat with EMGS, but I've only played it once or twice. My guitar has Seymour Duncans and I really like it, good quality pickups. |

Passives are tonally superior. DiMarzios have the best crunch in my opinion. Seymour Duncans have the best thump while palm muting. |

Erm... League, most experienced guitarist would stand by active pickups being superior for tone. They cost more usually though. |

Yeah maybe but my favorite guitarists and influences use Passives. |

Maybe so, but to claim they're tonally superior is wrong is a bit biased really. |

Totally biased.Purely opinion. Those guitarists seem to agree with me though. |

Dimarzio makes a D-Activator. its supposed to have the power of an active pickup but without the annoying battery |

I like EMG's.. I played this Godin that had 'em in it and I love it. I forget the name of the guitar, but I think it looks like my Godin, but it was silver. So metal. |

There is nothing annoying about the battery haha, they are supposed to last for 5000 hours of playing.
I changed mine once in the year I've had it, just for good measure, I just opened the compartment, took out the battery and popped the new one in and went on my way. |
