Depends on what you like, and what sounds best to you (I suppose). |

If you don't want to drastically change your sound use 9-46 gauge unless you have an LP which mainly use heavier gauge. Depends What music, Guitar, or comfort. |

Well, depending on the thickness, you'll get a different sound. Thin strings are usually a brighter sound, while thicker are more "mellow". I changed the strings on my electric, and it really makes a difference. |

I like to play with 10's. the heaver string will give a little more response, and how hard your attack is will make a big difference on the sounds coming out of your amp. They will also need some getting used to.
I'm unbiased when it come to strings. I'll usually buy whats on sale. Slinkys are good, i also like the fender bullets, and gibson classic or vintage are also good. Exilar's are also suburb, but they cost too much and i have too many darn guitars. |

Type and gauge of strings is an indavidual(?) thing, try different kinds and see what works for you. On my Epi Dot and LP I use Ernie Ball 9-46 gauge, on my Strat I use Fender bullet 9-46 gauge, on my Martin D-15 I use Martin extra light Phospher Bronze 10 or 11 gauge, (I can't remember which). I have to use light gauge strings cause I have a scar going across the tip of my left index finger where I cut it 1/2 off and TAPED it back on, if I use heavyer srings the pain after just a little while of playing is almost unbearable. With these gauge strings I can play for hours before it gets to be to much. |
