i have a bit...i havent had much luck getting a decent sound though...im tryin' a little larry carlton sound- clean but if you hit it right you get a bit of crunch. plus its hard playing scales with my picking hand hehe...i dont think there is any special technique that's needed...just a lot of practice...
I hear that!I mess around with the piano but on the guitar it seems odd allmost backwards,i can throw taps in (but short)but it seems my hands allmost cramp up...lol but really fun to mess around with!makes ya kinda change the out look of the guitar, and changed my scales too!

yea...well sometimes i try to play it with the guitar in the normal position and just play using a double tap technique...but when i lay the guitar across my knees, it totally throws me off because now, everything is upside down! it really kinda is backwards like you said hehe...and yea, i agree, you cant look at scales the same way or chords or any of it for that matter. you have to play it like it is...a piano. kinda like a piano with six sets of keys on top of each other. im trying to just get used to playing on one string at a time and then gradually adding in the other strings as i improve.
I cant lay the guitar down at all...lol i have to play it normal but then it kinda jams me, so im lookin at finding a comfort zone for my right arm(Hard).I also tryed one string at a time and its funny because my mind starts going and with normal scales and things get fast but again my right hand cant keep up ...lol...uggggg.

yea thats the hardest part. cause i know that i can shred playing normally, and that confidence carries over....until i realize im terrible playing piano style hehe...just takes patience.

piano tapping is when you put a string dampener on the fretboard such as a hair tie sock or rag around the 3rd fret and place the picking hand over the the top of the fretboardalong with your fret hand and play the guitar as if it was a piano

btw Nullnaught for a great example of piano tapping go on youtube and look for chris brodericks betcha cant play this or look up look up super mario theme or simpsons theme on guitar and look for an asian guy playing 2 paul gilbert signature .modes
I see. But calling it piano tapping seems kind of confusing. It looks more like guitar tapping to me. I used to play midnight by satriani. Is that piano tapping? It looks like it.

true but its just an expression, kinda like banjo rolls, sure it could be called a guitar roll, but banjo roll sounds more impressive.anybody can guitar tap...but can you piano tap?

@nullnaught yeah, there are so many other techniques out there that sound good,i dont see a reason why people feel the need too try to simulate other instruments on guitar.i mean really have you ever heard a piano player try to simulate a guitar? But then again i do have a certain fancy for banjo rolls so i guess im a hypocrite,l...
no. that seems amazing. Mabey thats why noone has responded to my nikon D90 thread. Ive seen rudy sarza play his bass over handed and it jsut looks stupid to me. Like look at me i can wastse so much time i can do this. Now if he were doing the piano tapping that one thing but he wasnt.

ha maybe we should be moderators!and i guess rudy sarzo was getting bored with his one note bass lines and decided too try and look cool while pedaling a single note!
Mabey he should jazz it up then. Mabye through some extra notes in there. It just doesnt impress me a bit and thats probally why he does it and mabey it does impress some people. im not easely impressed.
