I'm feeling VERY brave and thought I'd at least attempt to sing something. But I have no clue what song to try. It needs to be something ANYONE can get away with. But nothing that would take any talent whatsoever to sing. So as many suggestions as possible would be great. I'll probally make up my own version of the song. I'm pretty sure I can find the chords somewhere.
And what effects would work best to enhanse the vocals? Im thinking chorus and reverb mabey.
Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright (or any of the many people who have covered it), I feel it is a simple song with a good flow and easy on the voice. When I'm teaching people to sing, I have them start here. It has everything you need in a song to get your voice into shape. THAT REALLY IMPORTANT! I can't tell you that enough, do simple warm ups and then sing s simple song.
be sure to always be able to here your self over the effects, and music tracks. your voice will never improve if you don't hear your self. trust me at first you want like how your voice sound (unless your lucky) but if you push though it things will work out.
Another great song that has a vary different feel is House of the Rising Sun. another song that has been covered by many for a good reason. Has a vary different feel then Hallelujah.
Hallelujah bright and soulful, melodic.
House of the Rising Sun dark, moderate, tempered.
both are simple songs to help you get a grounding on your voice, when you can sing these with confident your own voice will start to come out.
And this brings us into the last thing I want to say
The you will slow start to sound like the people you sing along with. In other words if you sing song from one band or type of music you will start to sound like thoughs kines of singer.
This is not a bad thing, unless you don't like how they sound. But this can be great if you want to develop a style like your favorite singers, just sing along with them over their songs and next thing you know you will develop the same traits.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask me, I have been around a lot of amazing singers and learned what I could from them and now I'm trying to pass to help everyone find their voice.
you can find the chords here

Another song that is great and add to some diversity his Hero Of War powerful song simple and easy. its good for learning to play and sing at the same time (really of of these songs are)
HELLL NO! anything by the Beatles is great way to go! songs are not as simple (so playing and sing my be hard at first), but lyrics and singing is great way to start. You want to start singing this that are quick to get into your head so you can focus on your voice.
as for Sabbath, mmm let me think. I sing songs by them and Ozzy all the time. Crazy train would be a great sound to try, but you will need to do some work before you take that one. Its a faster song with a high voice, you don't have to sing that high to sing that song. but from what I have learned its hard to learning sing from song that are out of your range.
If you feel its in your range or you can work it into it (and that comes down to just dropping things an octave) but that's not easy to when you start.
