Ok, so I'm a beginner. I've been taking lessons for about a week and a half; and my first guitar just got here today. After playing for awhile, I noticed that the low e string's buzzing like crazy. I don't think it's out of tune, but I'm not exactly an expert in the field of tuning. Is it just because they're new strings and they need to be broken in? |

Buzzing can happen if your action is set too low, if a fret is pulled loose or just not level to the rest of the guitar. you can also bet buzzing from the bridge or a warn nut. ask your teacher to look at it and see if he would recommend a change or even a guitar tech. |

Oh. I never thought of that. Now that I think about it, it does seem to only do it when I fret it a certain way. Thanks.
I think I'd better get it looked at just incase, tho. |

well, i do think its yer fretting, what gives this away is 'Ok, so I'm a beginner. I've been taking lessons for about a week and a half; and my first guitar just got here today' so i would argue yer fretting hand is lacking the strength for some chords. |

personally i wouldn't think fretting would cause buzzing... it would produce a tone might be muted, but but "buzzing" sound is the string touching a later fret while it vibrates. if you are too weak when fretting it causes something else...
but i think we need more specifics. which E string is buzzing? and when does it buzz? open? fretted down?
my first guitar buzzed on the two lowest strings when fretted down around the 10+ frets. i raised the action to remedy the problem.
all of my guitars currently have a problem where the low E string buzzes when playing open (see the tread titled "floppy low E string"). i think it's just the way i play it. |

its pretty simple to adjust your action and get rid of that buzzing sound and its a useful skill to have. this video explains it pretty well.

@gx:
Well, it's the low e (the 6th string, if I'm not mistaken) and since I posted this I noticed the 5th string was buzzing, too. It buzzes on majority of the frets, but it is worse about 10+. It sounds great open, tho.
@harley
Okey dokey. Thanks
