hey all, here's a piece that I made a couple weeks back for psychology class... I call it the Milgram Experiments
The solo was all done in one take which makes me kind of proud

Constructive criticism is always good to have, so please, help me out, and thanks in advance

Enjoy!

Seems kinda like mindless metal to me. Just very bland.

The way I figure, we should all always try and make our genres our own. Ya know, give it little somethin different. I just don't see that in this particular piece.

But, hey - If you're happy with it, then it's all good.

Yeah, i've fallen into this whole metal thing with writing and improv's but I like it.
Anything about my playing would be nice though(not genre stuff)

Playing wise, it ain't nothing I ain't heard before (unfortunately, in the genre). I think you should hold your notes a bit longer, define the rhythm a bit more. I just didn't see it going anywhere.

Honestly, it somewhat sounded like the lead was playing a different song. It just didn't mesh together for me as well as it could have. I also noticed that some of your bends sounded like they weren't exactly reaching their desired note.

yeah, my strings (sadly) had been put on about 5 months ago... i live in omaha, and they sat for about 1 month in about 70% humidity every day all day... so the intonation is horrible and the strings sound horrible in certain areas and don't really last that long hence the short sustain

thanks for the crits though :) always trying to pinpoint my weaknesses in songs and such

Yeah, I see your technique improving a lot, but still you got quite big timing problems...ofcourse in improvisation those come easier. I saw Joe Satriani's interview where he told regarding improvisation, that if you dont know what to play next. Dont play anything. Keep that in mind and consentrate to rhtyhm. Im sure when you get timing better, you raw..rocks.

One thing that it may sound senseless or mindless metal like evan said, could be reason of phrasing. You could study that one too a bit. I remember Carl said nicely in one topic that keep safe position or something like that, it is also very helpful, it may sound repetitive at times if scales are not in spine, but it helps you getting to back to beat when you drive yourself too crazy :D.

Anyway, cheers m8, keep rockin.

Your tone is interesting. I kinda like it. I couldn't hear the backing tracks or the drums without the lead being ridiculously loud. That may have been what you wanted. The improv was kind of boring though, to be blunt. :/
