are you looking to gig with it?
if not I suggest the Hughes and kettner edition blue 15R, I have that amp and I can squeeze all kinds of sounds out of it , but the rest of th lineup is pretty much the same but with a foot switch and more power. fantastic sounds for a solid state, and they don't break the bank , or your back, they are fairly lightweight.

I've got a 30 watt Vox Valtronix. It's a modeled amp and get lot's of different tones out of it. I really like it and would like to get it's big brother someday.

It's not a full fleged tube amp but I don't need the volume or the maintenance hassle like EMB5490 has had with his Marshall.

If you are looking for a tube check out the Fender Blues Jr. they sound pretty sweet

It depends on the kind of things you want to play. If you mean multi-purpose as in shred metal, and country, maybe the Fender Blues Junior isn't for you. I tried it and found the gain to be rather lacking. Most tube amps are going to be expensive.

Want to repost with your budget, and some examples of what you're into?

Hughes and Kettner 15 Watt Edition Blue. I own it and I squeeze bluesy grit, good classic marshall type tones for rock, and smooth jazzy type of tones. Great amp for $200.

define multi-purpose. I play folk, rock, blues and punk. I find hte Vox VT30 is an excellent amp for this combination.

I have a peavey encore 65. Good headroom, its LOUD and takes pedals well for distortion. You can get one really cheap like around 200 or so. Keeps us updated on what you get
