I came across this looking for Bernstein's third symphony, watch him conduct this warm up simply utilizing the C major scale. This just completely blew me away. My favorite playing of a scale! Just amazing. Watch the rest, it's really inspiring.

To conduct an orchestra and to play in one are very different skillsets. Though as guitarists, orchestras are not our forte. The guitar is a relatively new instrument, and as such not a lot of orchestras have a place for the guitar as there isn't a lot composed for us. There are a few though, very good ones, do a search for guitar conciertos. |

Yeah, that's what I plan to do when I'm older. I mentioned this to you before, I'm going to be a composer, not someone who plays on TV. I play instruments to grasp ideas of melodies.
Guitars do play in an Orchestra though. |

I'm sorry Joe but the guitar it actually older then the piano. the electric guitar is new but so is electricity. the guitar was always a major comping instrument along with many others but then the piano came and kick all there asses |

Well, I suppose it depends on how you look at it, if a completely different instrument is the same instrument your logic is sound.
1780 is when the first 6 stringed guitar made it's apearance and 1884 would be the first time a guitar was created that was... a guitar.
1900's would be the first time a real guitar concierto was made.
