Steve Howe from Yes is a great guitarist that not many know about.

And Kurt Cobain is the most Overrated musician/songwriter of our time. Half the time his lyrics don't make any sense and the other half he just took off the wall of a bathroom stall. At least one good thing came out of Nirvana, Dave Grohl!

How about Ulrich Roth from the Scorpions. Listen to the Sails of Charon recorded in the early 70's. It should be on the history of shred!
