Whenever i play scales and im sure everyone is the same at some point, i find myself playing the same old stuff, and in general sounds fairly boring, has anyone got any tips to spice it up a bit? |

PLay them backwards and then skip every second note and third and so on it changes the scales and then you should find your self coming up with some intresting things |

Also, just play 4 notes in a row, then move back 3, repeat. |

You could play the scales using intervals such as a 3rd or a 4th, so instead of playing 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 you could play 1 3 2 4 3 5 4 6 5 7 6 1 or 1 4 2 5 3 6 4 7 5 1 6 2 7 3 1 etc |

well, scales aren't a creative outlet, although they can get pretty boring. remember to play the scale at every position. try different modes. for a fun challenge, learn to play the melodic minor properly, differently up then as down.
if you do scales with a metronome for a hour a day, no distractions, focusing on playing smoothly, and bumping up the tempo every ten minutes, doing a different scale every 2 minutes, you will see the payoff pretty quick. even if you can't find a way to make it fun... well, if you want to be really good, just suck it up and do it anyways. |

To be fair ive been playing around past few days and i think a lot of the repetativness is because i alwways play blues, and minor pentonic, but now im playing the major scale, it just seems to be much more exciting.
Although its strange i dont like playing blues and minor pentatonic as much as others, because i like Rock/Indie and minor pentatonic and blues are used all the time in them. |

Try minor scales or mode. I also noticed vibrato, string bends, and tremolo picking makes a huge difference. Sometimes the structure(chord changes) of a song is what leads a solo to sound dull or boring. |

Speed pick them, add some random stuff in between them. Just experiment with them |
