hey guys, i just got my strings changed, and i hve one prob. the 2 lowest strings a, and e are hitting frets when i pluck them. i called ther, and the guy said it was tht the tension was released from the guitar when the strings get taken off, and it should stop in a couple days. i asked him if i should do anything to it, he said no, itll be the biggest $75 mistake u ever made...and of course i did. i dont see nay effect in it, but at the bottom of the strings, below the stopper thing, the bridge i think it is, i adjusted a huge screw, the guy ther did to clear up some shaking in my g string. i put it back to the original position. wtf did i do? is it a 75 dollor mistake? wut does tht bolt do?

Sounds like you raised the action, if that's the case I don't think it's to big a deal I screw with mine all the time. As long as it's in tune and you can play it I would leave it alone. I think if you move it to much it can mess with your pick ups. I have never had that problem but it seems like I heard someone else say that if you raise the strings to far from the pick ups they don't respond as well but I might be wrong about that.

What did you do exactly? And about the buzzing... That always happens... Every time for me at least...

By the sound of it you screwed up you torsion bar thingy, but that would be a few hundred dollars minimum if there is a problem so... No idea...

visualizing is tough because of the difference of guitars, so get out the ole cell phone (or digital camera) and take a picture of the area you screwed with. make sure we can see the entire area. hey take two or three pix and post them then we can see what you're talkin bout.
someone here will have the answer for you.
Okee Dokee?

well, pay attention while your there cause if they are backed up for 2 weeks there must be plenty of work. learn how to do it and you can make money fixing other peoples screw ups!
imagine spending the day with guitars and musicians and getting paid for it.

If you screw the Bridge down on a Les paul (two screws)Its no problem at all.losen the tension on the strings (not all the tension)then hit the string and back the screw out slowly till it doesnt buzz. Its not the intonation the intonation is something completly diffrent,it sounds like you lowered you string height a little to low that all.Hell if you change the guage of strings you allways half to raise on lower them to fit the way you like to play..I like my strings as low as I can get them(speed) easier to play the faster you play.

ahh, ty notim, what i wanted to hear hears a pic, mine arent working.
this isnt mine, but its the big bolt/screw, its the same kinda thing as mine.

notim, which screw do i turn? the big ass 1 or the small 2 on the small bridge, or the ones on the saddles, should i leave it alone, he said it would go away as tension comes back, is this true?

also my g string is also rattling, not with a fret, i know tht sound, it sounds like the nut, but the guy tht strung it did somthing with one of the bolts/screws on the bridge, dont know which one, not the induvidual ones on the saddle. it worked, but thers still a lot of tht rattling, any way 2 stop it?

Ohh... Thats fine. It's just your action and inotation. Not sure which one, but it's one of those 2... It'll be a bitch to get fixed, but there isn't an actual problem. Just move the 2 screws around until the 7th fret is the same note as the open one before...

I think the guy meant that it would be really hard for you to do it, so you'd go to someone, in which case he charges allot... Not sure though, your fine, although It'll take you a bit of work. Then Again, you might not even notice a difference...

idk think it really matters ur post count, but if u want it to, the first one to get 1000 posts gets a pat on the back and last year calendar lol.

w8, veqq, the 7th fret? btw the turning of tht thing effects if im in tune. more on the lower strings.

Lol yeah Doz I came in like, December? and then by January I had like, 150 more posts than you aha and then i left and you took that back :P Post count doesn't really matter though, the important thing is we can get along and help each other out & stuff and not have to make life a contest.

I sound like a preschool teacher...

The 7th fret of the A string is an E so it's the same as the open E string. It works the same way all the way down (adjusting for the B...).
So It's basically checking the frets to see if the string is the right note on them. Also try tuning to the 12th fret on every string, when everything is right, you are in the golden zone!

It is the same as natural harmonics, but, they aren't just for checking your inotation, you can use Natural harmonics in music too... :D

The back screw ,the back screw controls the string height and the front is the intonation. If you mess with the front we are going to have a long conversation of explaining intonation. All you did was lower your string height ,that is all not the intonation.as I said in my first post hit the string and raise the bridge until it stops buzzing..thats pretty mutch it , nothing major at all

you should be turning it counter clock wise then retune it ,did you turn the front bridge? If you did then you threw out the indonation.

Yeah it's not like any of us sits here on the computer on this site all day and clicks the refresh button every 2 seconds. That would be weird. This is getting a bit off-topic.

Lol yeah 75 dollars is a bit much, especially when you can do it yourself and it just costs time.

Does your guitar play now? And really thats a 4 min fix not hard at all and intonation can be done with in a hour if your good at it if that really they just make it sound hard to charge you more thats all a big rip off.

cool but remember your getting someone else's setup, don't feel bad I messed up also but thats how you learn now I can pretty much tear them apart and put it back together, alot of times if I find a guitar I like, like the white Kramer I have I didnt even play it before I bought it ,and the guy up the road that I bought it from asked me arent you even going to play it first? I said no it doesn't matter cause I'm going to tear it apart and put it back together my way anyway....but that will come in time.
