I'm just curious how others find how to create structure for their music. I have a thousand cool sounds, but it's so hard for me to be satisfied with any structure I come up with. I get tired of the same old chord progressions, and I have such a hard time trying to figure out some new riff I'm happy with. I guess I'm hitting a roadblock today or something. It's one of those things where I just wish I could figure out where to go next. I think it might be a creativity block or something. It's like I have the canvas in front of me, and I've got a bunch of ideas, but I don't know how to paint it, or make it all come together. |

Hmm... do you mean you are having trouble writing riffs, or stringing riffs and chord progressions together to make a song? |

i guess a little of everything. i mean i have the know how, i know what im doing, but i dont know how to put it all together and make a finished product. i dunno, its like a creativity block. so much of my stuff ill come up with a basic concept and wont know where to go from there. i mean i can do standard stuff, but i guess im kind of leaning toward progressive stuff, and im trying to just get a structure together and dont know what to do. |

I hear ya brody I went through that a week or so ago,Just walk away from it for abit and run scales and practice and such thats what I did, and I know its harder then it sounds but try not to think about it and let your head clear and then go back to the open canvas and do so painting, |

It might sound weird, but try and work out one of your existing riffs/progressions, etc. on another instrument e.g. piano. I often find that in the process of trying to work the riff out I end up playing something slightly different and it creates a new section for the song.
Try it out, you'll see what I mean.

thanks for the ideas, ill give them a shot. i think it might help if i get to jam with my band soon and see what we can work out together, but we've had really shitty weather where im from, so i havent been able to meet up with them. but ill try some of these ideas and see if they work until then. |
