Hi Guys/Girls
I'm a newbie here and I was just wanting to say hello and ask a little advice: I have the choice of two guitars - An Epiphone SG or an Epiphone Les Paul. Both are about 8 years old and about the same price. Assuming both are in similar condition which would you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

I would try them both out and see what you like better.
I tell everyone that but it is true. |

if the sg has the smaller neck you might be better off with that. the LP's can be realy have and have a bit of that chunky neck. lots of people like the chunkcy neck but starting of it might be easer with the SG. but sit down with it and tinker with them both ands listen to them. |

Don't forget about comfort. if a guitar is more comfortable while playing, it will be easier. |

ahem, check the intonation on the guitars. play harmonics on the 12th fret to make sure the harmonic is not off. secondly check the 7th fret harmonic. third, check the 5th fret harmonics(this is not as easy or clear as the 12 or 7 harmonics.) if the strings have adjustable saddles then its not that big of an issue.
check for fret buzzing. if the strings action is too fast then the string will buzz against frets ahead of it. if the action is adjustable again its not that big of an issue.
check for warping along the fretboard, and body of the guitars. |

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up going for the Les Paul, it looked in better condition and had a better sound.
