So I am finally trying to finish up my first ever song! It's been forever in the making, but I got tied up for a couple years with too much other crap and didn't have time to play at all. Anyways, I had a question about the progression, because I am trying to do the last part, which is to create a little guitar solo. The main verse starts with a G, then switches to a Cadd9. Then it goes into a Em7 (I think?) and finally an A7sus4 (again, I think). The reason I think that this is the progression is because the notes that sounded right to my ears for the bass part that corresponds to this verse goes G-C-E-A. My question here is that since I think the key is G major, shouldn't the A chord be a minor chord, since the ii chord in G major would be A minor? I might be putting way too much thought into this, but I am pretty new to learning how to solo over a progression, so I want to make sure I fit the progression. Thanks! |

A minor would be the ii chord in a G major scale. But I don't really get what you're asking. Are you asking if you can solo in A minor over a G major progression? |

With a G Major progression the A chord is minor but with sus chords there is no Major or minor since the 3rd is not used. |

Punch in G Maj chords to scale and you get all of your chords.

This is what I was missing for some reason. A suspended chord has no third, so it should be able to replace either a major or minor chord. Thanks mosh! |
