nice escapes from creative ruts

I was playing around on stumbleupon.com the other day and I found this really cool chord progression engine that is really interesting.

what it does is it lets you pick a key and it generates all the chords in the key, it then allows you the option to ether pick out chords from the list and put them in a progression or you can choose to randomize the progression. Then it allows you to ether choose a strum pattern for the chords that are in the progression or to have it randomized. after you do all that you can listen to it and change what you like to make it sound right to you. I think its really cool.

after playing around with that for a while I started to wonder how many things like this there are out in the interweb so I thought I would ask you guys if you have found anything like this or even if you have come up with anything like it. I think it would also be really cool to get a nice list going of things to reference to get out of a creative rut into a lesson or something as well so that it would be easier to find.

I, fortunately, have a friend who is very well endowed, musically speaking.

Whenever I get frustrated I make it a point to hang out with him, chit chat about music theory, and... *licks lips* play with all of his fancy toys.

I really find that there's no better tool for learning and expressing yourself... than the proper tools.

I mean, there's so many amps and pedals and effects out there. Surely you'll find something that helps you break through, or reach, what you had in mind.

I know that whenever I find myself at odds, creatively, with my little 10 watt and delay pedal, that it helps to visit my buddy.

Like I said, it's a fortunate thing.

And I wouldn't recommend going to Guitar Center just to screw around with all their fancy stuff.

But, I guess what I'm trying to get at is there's seemingly a lot of keys to unlock the gate. How many keys do you have?

On a side note, I hate to seem patronizing here...

But if you know the key you're playing in couldn't you just figure out all the chords... by knowing all the notes that are in that key?

there is definitely an amount of inspiration when playing with new equipment and definitely when playing with other people. those are great points.

I think u may have missed the point of the program. it is a random chord progression generator to help you see step that you may not have thought of yourself and to help you explore the sound of those steps. Its mostly just a good way to kick you out of your comfort zone. you could find all the chords in a key by knowing the notes in the key but that wont necessarily accomplish the same thing as the program does.

Dude, that is definitely one of the better chord emulators I've seen. Terrific share, I wish I could give you another karma bump just for that.

I just got done playing around with a few other things on that website and allot of their programs are really good for free soft ware. especially their drum machine.

I enjoyed it as well. Nice find.

that is a really good website. I used that a lot back in the day. I still do sometimes when I want to do ear training stuff.
