Sometimes you'll have to put the guitar away, just don't play the guitar for a couple of days and you'll notice that you'll feel like playing it again! Playing the guitar for a (very) long time also isn't very good for your improvement.

Similar situation as you, loads of free time so I played loads. The other day I just didn't want to pick it up... so I left it for two days. Almost left it for another... but decided to play anyway.
I wouldn't leave it for too long... but two days was enough for me. On that third day I was into it again. |

i used to play 7hrs a day for two months but i got so frustrated and burnt out that i quitted playing for 4months , i think you shouldn't overdo it i guess , it's not good to play as much as you can even , if you feel like it , do it but if it starts feeling like a thing you HAVE to do, just quit somedays like they said here before...
gl and don't quit, you're only playing for a year ,it takes time |

Well, all guitarists go thru this at some point I think. It's human nature, you start up doing something and there's so much to learn about it that it's all fresh and exciting. But once you've been at it for a while, that 'spark' starts to die, and as a result your standard of playing can drop. In my case, it took me a month to pick my guitar up again, but the reason I did so was because I watched a vid of Satch and I just went 'WTF! I have got to play like that!' I think it just takes a bit of inspiration at the right time to get things moving again. I would recommend a really good book written by one of the pros. I used one of John Petrucci's, which is full of so much stuff that it never gets boring.
Anyway, let us know how it all works out!
Regards,

Damn, those are good suggestions! I started to play around two months ago or so. Now, latest days, I've also noticed that I'm playing like a little bustard (in negative way). Khmm, I'm not skilled, but I'm learning fast and I think I play quite well, though. So, just happened that I was camping for three days and when I got back, I played like a guitar god (well, in my eyes.)! :D So, taking time off is good. ;) |
