So lately a lot of people at school have been asking me if I teach guitar and that they would like to learn how to play. I said I would love to teach them the basics and some songs they want to learn. doesn't hurt to get started teaching now right? haha. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or techniques for teaching people who this would be their first instrument, so I would have to explain what a scale is, a chord, etc. I'm trying not to make this super serious, so that they will have fun learning. Thanks:) |

^^^well, the techniques that you teach them should reflect what genre of music they like, for example rock and metal people should maybe learn pickstyle, some basic major chords,root-5th power chords, open position pentatonics, all basic stuff, and slowly explain the theory behind it as they physically learn to play the instrument.
note* teaching root fith power chords will make learning fun bcuz there is ton of cool songs they can play and enjoy

Teaching is a very hard concept. You need to be able to help people when they struggle, and show them where to go when they get through it. Most importantly, you need to be a motivator.
Actual guitar teaching techniques can vary. Usually you want to restrict the amount of playing you do, and focus on their playing.
If carl would come in... I'm sure he can better give you some insights on teaching guitar |
