go with the fender 59 bassman good guitar and bass amp just a all around monster. Through in all seriousness i would go for solid-state bass amp i don't see the need for a tubed bass amp unless you distort your bass like a guitar(personal opinion but i hate that). that and they would be more stable.
the 59 Bassman did go around 1,300$ but with the fender jacks ups who knows the cost know ***s. but on the bright side my tele now cost 1,500 and i paid 450 for it new. haha i ** the system i win!!!! living in the northeast and shopping for clearance teles is the way to go. |

this is my opinion case i guess is comes done to your bass players liking of different timbres, but for me i like a nice clean solid bass punchy sound that can easily cut through. and to me that screams solid-state but then again I'm no contra-bass guy and your friends needs might and will not be mine.
that and i would imagine a low frequency would mess with the tubes but there i have no experience with(only played/mess with solid-state)
the fender bassman is a great amp though that and you like Marshall right? while there amp are modded bassmans |

my bassist would be using clean always no distortion. if he ws to get a solid state id have to be one of the best b/c tone wise their just inferior. |

you need to stop perceiving with your mind and start listening. there is a reason why tubes are still being using in amp tech why analog and why, why ,why. there is always a reason to the madness. even if you can concisely see it.
my pc messed up, so this post is delayed but my point was proven any way |

My bass player uses SWR. Personally I love the sound of them, very diverse. you can find some real good deals on them as well. Hartke and Genz-Benz make some good amps too. You can find tube solid state hybrids. |

i got a mid 70's Fender Bassman Ten for my guitar and i plug in basses every now and then and it sounds pretty badass. its a very classic rock sound and you can probably find one for around a grand and thier always on ebay. if you got any questions about it, i got one sitting in my room, ill tell you anything you want to know. |

Bass players prefer Solid State amps to tube amps, as they give a more reliable sound. |
