Haha, it's about much more than just "infinite" sustain.

foogered(and others) I'm interstead in your opinion (if you wish to reply) on the state in which guitars/instruments in general are headed? i find this whole vintage crap and the stuff that goes along with it, very degenerating and when anything new comes out like Parker flys, trans trem, ect through obvious not always good are instantly shut down instead of developed or lead to new and better ideas. that syths which have the power to make sounds unheard of are largely trying simulate other instruments. the only good expect i can think of is the mini-Moog. I remember reading a quote from John cage saying not to worry that when cars first came out they resembled carriages but look at them know. that was in 1950s. granted some things where invented in the late 1960 early 1970s(obviously not just then but you get the idea) but come on with digital/space age tech we should be doing things people can only dream about not mopping about how it was better then. i blame endorsers making people only be seen with certain products but in the studios there loaded with parkers and such. i don't know maybe it just a dumb rant

Well, I'm going to share with you a little bit of what I was taught in my Sociology class last semester. I leave it to you to decide how you feel about this; I'm still working on it myself.

Our society is moving into a period of "simulated reality". A large majority of what we experience (including contact with other humans) comes through electronic screens and other indirect, or simulated sources. Along with this simulated reality, there's also a hunger for things that are "vintage" or "authentic" which are often just as simulated as what you experience through your TV screen, but these things are tangible and LOOK like the original thing, even though they aren't.

This being said, people may be clinging onto the "vintage" and "authentic" guitar styles and sounds that they know and love, rather than embrace change and progress.

Post-Modernism is kind of crazy.

diffidently something to ponder about. but it shows a direction to head for. and explains why i don't watch/own a tv,do IM/text, and refused to get a cell phone for the longest time(JOB) and why I read more books then are good for me and why i don't feel the same about vintage stuff because i shun that way of life. diffidently something to ponder about that and Nietzsche's "birth of a tragedy"
