Others may correct if im wrong, but its like holding over of a note from one chord into the next chord that the ear is prepared for the shock. |

I believe it has something to do with suspended chords in classical music theory, as in preparation chord, suspended chord and release chord, eg Gmaj, Dsus4, Dmaj.
If you are looking to be playing music in a modern setting then I wouldn't worry too much about this. |

Yeah, I think its more composition stuff. Ive stumbled to it in dominant chords more than others. Though interesting question anyway.
and actually it might be part of playing if you play some experimental stuff where are some extraordinary chord changes... |
