u dont 'lift' the finger u pull it off.. as for the harmonics try doing it on different parts of the string. like between the where the neck starts and the bridge |

No bodom, he's right, you 'lift' it since you're sweeping if you were pulling off then it would make the sound he doesn't want to make.
With this Mag, use your picking hand to 'dampen' the strings, so you basically rest your hand on it a little as you go down while sweeping to stop that irritating pull off note. |

that's a strange way of doing it. i mean, it's good to keep it close to the string, but i don't think you should be doing it like that. that'll limit your playing if you ingrain that into your mind. |

Ok, thanks guys about the sweep picking part, but what about the harmonics? Doing it between the neck and bridge doesnt help..But anyways, one more question...in sweep picking, how do you know when your picking and fingering is synchronized or w/e? Look at veqq's sweep picking guide if you dont know what i'm talking about |

It's a matter of hearing, while you're sweeping you need to make sure that you hear one note each time you hit a note, so you don't pick too late (which plays the open string and then hammers on a second later) or too soon. You need to practice slowly first, don't rush off and play really quickly because in two years time you'll realise you've been doing it wrong, and will have to start over.
Start at a slow assed tempo, play each note making sure you get it on the beat and make sure there's NO MISTAKES before you increase your speed. This is how the masters improved. Because by playing it slowly this is how your mind can remember it properly, and with that you'll be able to play a lot faster, because it'll already be second memory.
Pinch harmonics aren't really my thing, but yeah, you're not doing it right if it sounds too quiet.

He's using a Jazz III pick if you're wondering. (I use Jazz II for that smooth tone, but Jazz picks are AMAZING)

idk thats just wut alexi laiho said, and hes really gd at sweeping. wether i actually do that im not sure.. but start slow and u will gradually get faster
as for pinch harmonics (or squeals u might call them) different strings and frets have different places where u have to pinch, so u gotta try different places.. at least on my guitar
EDIT: lol i think thats the video i found when trying to figure out how to do squeals.. that seems like such along time ago.. |
