Hmmm.. I wouldn't agree with the EQ skold gave. Scooping the mids won't give the fullness you'll want. Maybe cut your bass a bit, keep mids mid way and give your treble a boost. If you have prescence, only give your treble a slight boost and then have your prescence just before half way, maybe a bit less.
Don't have to much distortion... half way maybe, keep adding it if it's a bit too clean but don't over do it.

I don't know. I think humbuckers work a lot better for going for a crunch sound. It's night in day in diffrence between my paul and strat using the same amp settings.

so when going for crunch are you looking for crispness? I guess when I'm going for a crunch I want thickness. I think single coils are weak, compared to humbucker.

Well, there are obviously many crunchy tones... so it's down to preferance, ultimately. Single coil will give in instant crisp crunch to an overdriven guitar sound though.
