gibson explorer
gibson les paul
schecter guitars
esp's (although i dont like active pickups)
ibanez(for the hell of it)

any others?

also could some 1 tell me when those companies stoped making quality stuff, and what year would be a good one.

id like to see some amps (used)
peavey valve king
peavey windsor
marshall modern and vintage

any others? im spending a MAX of around 3000. im open to all suggestions for the new stuff, keep in mind i dont play heavy stuff and like a full rich classic rock sound.

Of the Gibsons, I would choose the Les Paul. They seem to be very popular with big time musicians and I've never heard one sound bad, per se. For a "classic rock" sound for a schecter, check out the C-1 Classic. It's what I play and sounds great clean, distorted, anything'd. One of my favorite aspects is the neck-thru design. It gives a great feel and gives great sustain to the guitar. The looks are amazing too.

I don't have experience with those amps, I just can't stop doing these ads for Schecter, though :)

You know me, I would go with the Les Paul. As for amps I like Marshall but they are a little expensive, I love my Hot Rod Deluxe It sounds great. I think it is around $700 new. The only thing is you will need some kind of distortion pedal it's kinda weak on distortion but that's not what fender amps are known for, with a Fender it's all about the tone.

Heh, I like that you asked when they stopped making quality stuff.

Les Paul is probably your best bet for the Classic Rock sounds (from my experience). I've played a few Schecter's, and they also sounded pretty versatile. Ibanez also makes fairly versatile guitars.

You can't go wrong with Peavey. Valvekings are really good amps, though I'm afraid I don't know much about the Windsor.

I've told myself I'll never by a Marshall unless it's a tube-powered half-stack. I'm not at all a fan of these "digital fx" combo amps.

i dont want a combo, and i want a tube. my teacher said tht the new marshalls suck, the only good one is the handwired series, the vintage modern. he said he played the peavey windsor and it sounded fantastic, idm prob just get a head and buy the cab later when i get the money.

hey my teacher showed me an amp and guitar custom thing called carvin, any 1 heard of it, they look sick, i just checked the gibson custom, and ther like a lot cheaper, why is thisS?

The only thing I've got against the LP (apart from it being over priced) is that I find it a bit of a pain from fret 15 upwards, but that might just be because I have small hands. I think if I was going to get a Gibson again, it would have to be the SG for its double cut-away.

o ye, also my guitar teacher is selling a wine red gibson les paul standard 1999, and he says it hasnt been used much, hes selln it b/c he never brought it to lessons, too heavy, and never played it, hes selling for 1.7k a good buy?

I would jump on that if it's in good condition. A Gibson Les Paul standard goes for about $2,250 - $2,500 new.

also i tryed them on a shitty amp, bad distortion, it makes all the diff, any of u guys ever play the peavy winsor? looks good. ill have to try it.

have you tried any 'orange' amps. they're very much suited to the style that you normally play, very high quality but a price tag to match. depends on how much you're willing to fork out for an amp. My first guess at the SG is that yeh probably cheaper than a lesbian (sorry my way of saying les paul) but not so much the sound you would be wanting. my advise is just keep looking around and trying out various options

so what would you spend maximum on an amp? in that case possibly $1500 if youre buying that first? if so you can probably do better than a windsor, its mostly about doing your 'homework' and looking at a variety of different makes, i take it marshalls are off the agender?

the only marshall id look at are the modern and vintage series.

heres what id want outta my amp:

high gain
one channel
lots of watts
head and cab
half stack costing under $1000 american
tube amp
good sound
good for classic rock, southern rock and some metal

not nesecarily in tht order.

reason y im gettn it is for skool, im joining jazz band (hopefully) and its a pain in the ass bringing it to skool and home every day, id leave my amp aat school nd lug my guitar, and eventually get a new guitar, the new amp im buyin is gon be at home.

also could u tell me what all the features mean and the stuff id want to see in the features?

ye wtf does tht mean?

i heard bad stuff bout the behringer, i saw a burger or w/e it is at the store i visted, didnt try it though.

atm i can only be bothered to answer the ohms and watts question, basically in the guitar and bass amp world you have the option of 2,4, 8 and 16 ohm cabinets. The first give you more watts (sound power) while the latter give you a 'better' sound.

I always figured: you lose volume at the benefit of sound quality if you go higher in 'ohmage'

and the slant and straight question its all about sound projection if thats what you were thinking

hmm, i always though tht the louder the tubes went the better it sounded. w8 so wut would be a good ohm for good sound, and less volume?

also to every 1 else still need the other questions answered thnx.

yeh the tubes do make it sound better the louder it goes so put the two together

also a-a/b is type of class amp it is between, basicly A is better sound quality but alot of power usage wheres B is opposite, with the switch you gte best of both worlds as far as im aware

ooo thts nice, the reason im getting a one channel one is tht the distortion or clean sounds better on a one channel, am i wrong? most every big band uses either one chnnel amps, or they have a switch to switch over to a clean one channel amp. am i wrong?

You would probably be better off with a 40 or 50 watt tube amp. Tube amps are a lot louder than solid state amps. Mine is 40 watts and I can't turn it up loud enough to get the best sound out of it. I couldn't handle a 100 watt amp, my 40 watter will make your ears bleed. My advice, if you are going to drop some serious money on a tube amp, go for tone not distortion. You can always get a good pedal, and your distortion will sound better with good tone behind it.

ye, i just thought about tht, 120 watts is very loud, its very cheap tho, only like 400. i did try a fender amp and h8ed it because the distortion sucks, i tend to like a lot of distortion. id prob get a pedal with it, id have to see.

kk, i tryed the expenisive peavey amps and didnt liek them, not a lot of distortion and very loud. i wanted to try a fender, but i fking caant figure how to turn them on, im such a dip. i tryed a schecter guitar, the diamond series, the action was a bit too high, and no amps hade good distortion. im looking for a one channel amp b/c i hear the distortion is better, the distortion sucks on all the ones tht i tryed.

also in the 70s and 80s bands like ozzy and zep and hard rock/metal/prog metal like gnr bands used marshalls with good distortion, what were they? i know ther not jvms i tryed one, they suck. im sure they cost amzingly expensive so is ther anything like them?

maybe JCM series?

Also, what kind of distortion are you using? The amps you tried are by no means bad, so I'm confused as to why the distortion sucks on them all. It may not be great, but it shouldn't be terrible.

my advise is to try and get a decent amp but invest in a nice pedal so you may get that distortion even if your borrowing an amp or something. one of my mates did that, got a cheap £150 amp and spent rest on a zoom gfx 8 which is so versitile and sounds absolutely incredible. he can get any bands sound out of it including the ones you mentioned so yeh you should try that.

the jvm was weak, i couldnt crank it to any amount, too many ppl in store, but it was weak, the worst was the line 6, the tone on the fenders weree by far the best, but the distortion wasnt very good on them, i didnt like the peaveys, distortion bad, tone not very good, i only tryed the jvm in marshall, what did all the 70s and 80s bands use? whats the closest thing i can get to it to, like skynyrd before 76 they used peaveys after, gnr, ozzy (i love ther distortion on thers) zep...

kk, i saw a vid on the peavey windsor nd like what i see so far, no store has it :(. the ac30 is outta my league, i want a half stack costing 1k max. any 1 play/own a widsor, is the tone any good?

i have a feeling what im gona do is get a fender amp hooked with a mxr distortion and eventually get a ibanez tube screamer, i still waana see the peavey windsor, could save me hella lotta money.

k im an idiot...the disotrtion on the jvm wasnt working b/c i have it on the clean channel DOH! lol, its too much for me anyways, im looking at these right now:

FENDER:
'63 fender tube reverb
super sonic
hot rod deluxe
FM

btw in fender amps id get an mxr distortion pedal and am looking for the best tone and sound, i couldnt care shitless about its clean or disotrtion channels, just the tone and quality of sound tht comes outta it.

MARSHALL (ALL USED):
TSL
DSL
Vintage Modern head

PEAVEY:
Windsor stack
Penta (used)

if any one has any experiance with any of these amps pm me or post, im looking at amps under 1000 american dollars, which is why the marshalls would be used.

What im Looking For:

ULTIMATE:an amp with distortion good enough for hard rock and some metal, with a great tone.

SETTLE FOR #1: an amp with poor distortion and great tone

SETTLE FOR #2:an amp with great distortion and not as good tone

in that order, i can always get a distortion pedal, so, if any 1 knows an amp with the ULTIMATE tone tell me thts mainly what id want now tht i go over my prioities, i highly dought ill find the amp with the ULTIMATE distortion and tone, so id want SETTLE FOR #1, SETTLE FOR #2 is only if i cant find a good tone amp under 1k american. plz help. tnx in advance

edit #2:what about randhalls? a guy was buyn one at sam ash for 600 american and it sounded kick ass, are they any good, then again id want the ultimte tone....
