Hi, If you look under the scale chart on this site it has the root note the scale and also the pattern.
what exactly is the pattern I've been trying to learn the Pentonic scales.
what patterns should I learn first.
also what Pentonic scale should I learn first (Major, Minor, etc)
Thanks in advance |

Well, if you learn the first pattern, you can basically learn the rest.
Patterns are just different variations of the same scale as you move up or down the fretboard.
I'd say learn the pentatonic minor first, since it's the most basic and more widely used. |

the pentatonic scale is definatly the first u should learn, nd id have to agree and sqay the minor, i belive there are 4 or 5 patterns, and once u learn one, the rest come. also learn the ionian scale (major scale) with tht somes the mixolynyan spelt wrong, lydian spelt wrong, and aeolian, dorian, phryian spelt wrong, and locrian. |

Just learn the Notes in the scale and play them where ever... It's slightly harder then the pattern since you have to think, but it will help in the end, also, Boxes are, Evil!!!!!! |

I would work it backwords. Do what Vegg said and learn the notes, but learn them one finger and one string at a time, in what ever key you want. the move on to doing it 2 strings at at a time. by then you'll know all the notes and the patters won't really matter much. |

box is where you play like 2-3 notes on each string and go across them not chaging the postion much at all tree is where you play like 4 on one string changing position majorly |

Tree Scale
I think this is what is meant by "tree scale". It's just C Major, but it's like four notes on each string, starting on the eighth fret. The website calls it horizontal pattern, while a "box" pattern is a vertical pattern |

They aren't useless, they just are rarely ever used, they are basically modes of the pentatonic scale... |
