Yeah. I mean, I want my career to be in music, but I also understand that I HAVE to have a backup plan. I've got the contact to a producer (who knows everyone else), but that doesn't mean I'm guaranteed a record deal.
We've gotta be smart about how we handle our lives, nutter butter.
Plus, even if I do get a record deal, who says it's gonna last forever? |

also keep in mind that with declining record sales and pirated music then chances of a record deal are much less. some company's are not investing moneys in new talent.
I think every one is better off putting your crap together, posting it, releasing it, and building your own fan base.
Some examples of bands that did this and it worked...Grateful Dead, and Phish, and I'm sure there are others. The grateful dead had very minor chart success but with the support of their fans wold out arena shows, build a massive following, and the CD's sol 500k the first week after re;eased. Phish did much the same thing. They both wound up with record deals but look the record companys have to do very little for bands like that, they record, and release and tour. They alread have the fan base and the records will sell even if they suck (there were some not so great ones).
I just don't think there will be major lable record companys in 10 years. I think they will all be dried upl |

yeah, that might actually be good, like look what Bob Rock did to Metallica, they woulda been better off recording it themselves |

If you notice the Grate Full dead and Phish are both hippy Jam bands... :P
I won't comment on the riff, since I like Neo-Classical and nice Speed metal, some thrash too. |

.-. Well I mean I've finished my complsery school, for us that ends at the age of 16/15, then you go on to either get a job or go to collage, maybe both. I'm aiming for both, then to university or the military.
I'd produce and release my own stuff, make like...my own record company, release my shit, put on good shows and such. Best way to do it now adays, imo. |

You know when i was growing up and listening to jam bands no one called them jam bands (this was the 90's). but if you look at metallic they had a following before they got signed. If you can get a following you got it made
I still think in this day and age you have a mini recording studio in front of you and easy distribution though the web more more do you need |

Well, my contact is an A/V tech (has his own company in Houston) and musician, so he's always helping me out with stuff like that. He had/has an old studio out in the country or wherever, but he and his band only use it like once. Had everything in it, too (full drum kit, keyboards, guitars, etc.).
Now, I'm lucky, so you guys may see me touring in some number of years, but we always have to have a plan B. For me, if the music doesn't work out, I'll either work in guitar shops, or take a few I.T or A/V Tech courses down at San Jac in Houston and then try and get a job with my contact (Doc, as we all know him).
Also, it doesn't hurt that I know roadies who've toured with/worked for Led Zep, ZZ Top, Sabbath, etc.
So, in that case, I know the right people, and I've become friends with them.
