planes

k...im going to florida, i live in ny, over the summer. i want change tht, need to bring my gear. im addicted. heres my probs

1) i hear tht the airplanes do somthing to the guitar, but it couldnt be too much, i mean all those touring bands go on planes. what does the air pressure do to it?

2)i know i have to carry on my guitar, should i or could i carry on my amp, im flying jet blue.

3)my place down ther is an apartment filled with old fags. they h8 noise. i have a big ass 15 watt amp, its a vox ad15vt-xl, should i get a new cheap one? or is 15 watt quiet enough, i dont want them hearing, they are royal a holes, some of them.

what are your experiances in moving intruments by plane? help preciated.

maybe get the kind of amp that can hook onto ur belt?

You know what the fuck I mean. Just get that headphone/phone input adapter, and you're good to go.

don't do it man, rent one while your down there instruments get fucked up by the guys that load them

could i carry it on? it weighs like 20-30 pounds lol, its a beast,

its prob about a foot and a half across and about 1.75 or 2 feet up. im definatly carring on my guitar, i can do tht right? i have a hard case?

also i dont trust those guys. one time when i was flying to a golf tourny wit my clubs (clubs arnt cheap either, mine are at least 2k. my friend also going to tourny, at the end, my clubs were fine, his, 2 broken. and u know the saying, if its marked fragile, then they basicly put it at bottom, play football wit it, tackle it, shoot it, anything. lol.

I know man I don't think they allow you to carry on a guitar because theres a set size for what you can carry so you might be able to carry on an amplifier but not a guitar man I advise the same thing I said before you should just rent a rig for the month or 2 your gonna be away

atleast I know that when my Uncle tours and needs to fly with guitars, he had one in a hard shell hella packed case and they were so rough wiht it that the neck snapped while it was in the hard shell, and I think if you were able to carry them on he would've

I'm getting a pilots liscense myself... your amps and shit are fine with the pressure... the holds are pressurized. it's true handling is rough but unless ur guitar is made of glass its fine... electrics are like tanks, a friend dropped his off a balcony and it played fine, though the body was screwed up. if you have a tube amp you might condiser taking out the tubes and carry them on... if u cant then wrap them in newspaper or bubblewrap or somin. that should do the trick.... unless the plane crashes in a microburst it'll be fine

As long as what you did was fine (but I'm sure, costly). If you can pack tight, you can bring your bags as carry-on and check the guitar (since the first one is free). I've done it twice, seems fine.

But I hate seeing them fling it around... and I hate not being able to play, even if it's a few days. Here's what a google search brought up... I think he's got the right idea (especially not loosening your strings).

Contrary to popular opinion, it is not cabin pressure that will cause your bridge to rip away from its mooring, breaking your heart in the bargain. It's abuse by baggage handlers that destroys guitars. Consequently, I do not loosen my strings before flying. I don't believe in it. What's the use if, upon arrival, you find that your guitar is unplayable because you've screwed up the neck by releasing so much of the string tension, and now when you bring it back up to pitch it won't stay in tune for five seconds.

If you must do it, then just lower all six strings one half step. That will relieve a surprising amount of tension and you'll still be able to make music when you get there.

For myself, I stopped checking my guitar in the baggage years ago. I travel with it in a soft case that fits in the overhead compartment, and have only had to check it when traveling on the little "vomit comet" prop jobs. In that even, I hand-carry it to the baggage compartment and make sure it's the last bag on so nothing rests on top of it, and then of course it will be the first bag off too."

Some airlines are charging passengers to check bags now. Consequently, more people are carrying on luggage and carry on bigger bags. So unless you are one of the first to board, good luck fitting the guitar into the overhead compartment.

most all airlines are charging for the 2nd bag if not the first and some charge carry ons.

the airline will stow large items under the plane. as for your amp get a pod or something like that. You can tune in and plug in ear phones. I have a j-station but theres several diffrent models like v-amp. You should be able to pickup a j-station for $50 on ebay. not in much demand anymore
