Does anyone have any tips on techniques and effects to use in order to get a longer lasting tone?
I've recorded this tune on audacity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHyRt47Nfas but have had to use lots of reverb. My general technique is pretty shoddy but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |

I'll give you some tips......use a guitar with humbuckers......use a guitar with a set neck...
wiggle the string not back and worth like if you were holding down the g string not front eh a to d string but back and forth between the two frets.
If you are using effects turn off your noise supresser.....use a compresser

Thanks a lot ive always wiggled the strings between the other two strings rather than the frets, its sounds much better back and forth between the frets. The main problem with teaching yourself to play I suppose. |

Yes. What telecrater said. Also, use a compressor like he said. I just bought a MXR Dynacomp for 40 bucks on Craigslist. |

I think maybe I did not explain my self correctly. So when you wiggle a string floor to ceiling that is more of a vibrato. When you wiggles the string neck to bridge it's more for sustain. You are tring to prolong the time that the note remains active. that was my only point since you were asking about sustain.
What is your rig currently? |

Im a bit of a noob when it comes to equipment. Ive got a Tanglewood guitar its got entwhistle pickups I dont know whether thats good or bad? I use a Boss ME70 multi-effects for the compressor and a very small yamaha amp that the previous tenants abandoned in a cupboard at my old house. |

I'm sure it's fine. some of it will be technique and takes some time. if you new at the guitar just learn the basics of playing.
Check your boss ME70 and see if there is noise suppress and turn it off or down. that can cause the notes from being cut off. |
