iPad Recording

Has anyone tried any recording via the iPad? I was debating it as I have seen some impressive sounding recordings done using Amplitube or GarageBand through the iPad. It's an interesting though to me, because music is the only reason I even have a computer anymore. But I also want to hear the experience others may have had before even really thinking of making a switch.

Hey btimm. I've used the iPad and even the iPhone. The quality of the sound is great but there's a bit of a learning curve if you haven't used garageband before. Even though I used garageband before on an iMac, the UI on an iPad is a bit different and not as intuitive. Also, you have to buy an interface. I used iRig which is pretty good.

I have a macbook pro now and a Fender Mustang that I use an interface to the macbook. This is the best yet! Portable and easy to use.

Do you have an iPad now? If so, you would only have to pay about 29 bucks for the iRig to try it out. I think garageband for the iPad is now free but I'm not sure. Good luck!

I saw that GarageBand is free on the iPad now, but you have to pay for use of all the instruments. How is it for recording the guitar instead of programming it? How about for programming the drums?

I heard the iRig HD is substantially better than the iRig. You have any experience there?

I do have an iPad now, so I may try the iRig out then. At worst, the GarageBand app for the iPad is pretty cool for at least getting something in my head and quickly composing it so I don't forget it.

It's great for recording the guitar. I typically use drum and bass tracks instead of programing note for note.

I have an iPad 1st generation and did this maybe two years ago so my guess is you have a more updated version of the iPad itself which will help a great deal. Still, you may be able to buy an iRig and try it out with the iPad and if you are unhappy, return it.
