I am having some issues where I get hiccups while recording using Reaper. Specifically, the drums will hiccup (or maybe the entire track?) while I am trying to record bass. It's pretty annoying to do a solid take, and then have the software aspect essentially screw me over.

I am running Windows 7, and have an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 3.30 GHz and have 6 GB of RAM. It seems to me (though I could be wrong) that the computer should handle recording just fine.

I did some research before posting, since I want to try and figure things out myself first. I know that may be tough to be believe, since I have asked so many questions here lately, but I definitely do research things first. Anyways, it seems like the buffer for ASIO might be my problem? It is set at 512 Samples currently. Should I try adjusting that up or down? There doesn't seem to much latency at all, really it is more of an issue where the audio has a hiccup during the recording, so I get out of sync with the music. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem, however, the cause is unlikely the same. My laptop is pretty beat-up surviving Iraq and all, and it simply doesn't perform the same as it used to.

Anyway, I've done used up too much memory on my computer which in turn slows the whole thing down. Computers need more than just free RAM space to function efficiently.

I've got to run - but first try this: (I'm still on Vista so it might be a little different)

Open Windows Defender than click Software Explorer then Currently Running Software then simply turn off everything you don't need running. This isn't permanent, simply restart your computer and everything will be normal again.

But things like, Auto-update, Internet Connections, Anti-Virus, Google Updates, Syncs... They all use up huge chunks of memory and RAM so best to kill them while you are recording. I'll check back to see if that helped, but I'm off to school, so chow!

I was about to try that, but now for some reason Reaper won't even recognize my USB Interface. I am about to go f'ing hostile on this machine. It was working perfectly the other day and I tried messing with the samples and not it doesn't work properly.

Thing is, it works fine in Guitar Rig, I plug it in, play and hear it through my headphones that are also attached to the USB Interface. So clearly that is working just fine. I go into Reaper and it won't work.

I don't get it. This is more frustrating than anything I have tried before. If anyone has any thoughts on why this problem is occuring, I would greatly appreciate it.

Nevermind, I finally figured out the problem with ASIO4ALL and it is functioning properly again. Hopefully I can soon get rid of this annying occasional lag as well!
