I've been learning tears in the rain by joe satriani, the first half of one by metallica (not the fast solo)and a couple of easy riffs. I'm bored of this and i'd like to learn a solo but they're either all too easy and boring or too hard for me. Either metal, rock, jazz or classical would be good. Can anyone suggest anything? |

Well, if you are a beginner then Pink Floyd solos are a good suggestion. Some Metallica solos aren't that hard like the first solo in Fade to Black and the solo in Unforgiven.
That's rock and metal as for jazz, wait until you are an experienced guitarists and you know your scales, modes, and have the ability to improvise very well.
Classical is good to get into early.
Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major might be a good place to start. |

Pink floyd is the last thing I would recomend. While the solos are fairly simple licks. If not played with the correct feel and tone they will sound pretty bad. It takes awhile to develop your skill to that level.
I would recomend something more like
Judas priest-you got another thing comin.
IM in a hurry, ill suggest more later. |

Priest is too fast for a beginner. And although Pink floyd does take feel and tone, like you said it's simple. Which is what's most important for a beginner.
There isn't too much metal out there for a beginner. Really classic rock or blues is the way to start. Steppenwolf and Grand Funk Railroad are also good for beginners. |

Pink floyd may take a little more feeling but thats exactly why I suggested them. better that you learn to play with a some feeling than just hammering through really fast licks. expression is what makes a good guitarist. |
